#3993 Skype on the train

It makes me wonder how many are using Skype for long distance calls within Japan. The late Mitsuo Nakao (中尾光夫) used it to talk to his daughter in Hakodate.

All I want is a Skype-free Mother's Day
I don't like Skype. I remind myself it is nearly Mother's Day so I should be happy to chat face-to-face with the offspring on the other side of the world. But therein lies the problem. The face. After a frustrating start of "I can't see you. Is your …

Question by elie: What are the best sites for symbian application not ovi i want another site?

Best answer:

Answer by praelor
You could probably just type some key phrases into Google or Bing, such as “Symbian apps” or “Free symbian applications” and you’ll get tons of links. One I frequently use is http://www.symbian-freeware.com/ and it seems to have done quite well for Symbian’s S60 3rd and 5th editions. Just go down the line in your search and be careful with suspicious-looking sites! Happy hunting…

Firefox recently beat out Google Chrome as the No. 2 Web browser in one study, but a technical setback on the new Firefox 16 could change that. Just a day after it was released, Firefox creator Mozilla pulled Firefox 16 from the market because of a new “security vulnerability” it introduced. The lapse could allow a third-party site to track where Firefox users are browsing. How problematic is this? On its blog, Mozilla went so far as suggesting users downgrade to Firefox 15 while the issue is worked out. Besides boosting usability, the latest Firefox update sought to sharpen what has been its main competitive edge: fewer security vulnerabilities than the perennial No. 1 browser, Internet Explorer. Mozilla promised to have a fix available soon.

Question by Justin D: I just bought a MacBook Pro. I want to pay for and download and install Parallels and Windows 7.?
Do i need to download parallels and the Windows 7, or “Parallel for upgrading to Windows 7,” and Windos 7???

Best answer:

Answer by Rick Cross
You need Parallels Desktop 6 for Mac. I own both Parallels Desktop and VMWare Fusion and have found that in the recent versions, Parallels is the better of the two.

The other is for Windows users running Windows 7 who need to run Windows XP programs that don’t work in 7.

On the other hand, you might want to try VirtualBox first. It is free and I think even open source from Oracle (they got it when they bought Sun.) I’ve found on my Linux box that it works just as well as VMWare or Parallels in most cases. You’ll also want the extension package if you plan to use USB devices in your virtual machine.

Edit 2 days later: Macupdate.com is offering one of their bundles for the next two weeks. Eleven apps for $ 50 and Parallels Desktop is one of them. That’s how I ended up with two licenses. LOL I added the url to the end of the “source” area.
