New ISP will defend users from government spying

As the battle rages on over regulations for the Internet, one man is proposing a solution that could curb the concerns over online privacy. Legislation is being pushed in America right now that could stop online piracy, but would at the same time also infringe on the rights of many. Could all that change, though? One new Internet Service Provider will challenge the government if a user’s information is requested. Nicholas Merrill, executive director for The Calyx Institute, joins us to explain how he plans on changing the ISP landscape. Like us and/or follow us: twitter.com www.facebook.com

To start — Internet Governance matters! Now is gets hard –to establish a sustainable Internet Governance structure, a number of significant challenges need to be addressed. We need to address these problems through the adoption of domestic and international agreements to mitigate the harms that can arise from a globally connected world. We need to explore social and legal norms that protect users and institutions from harm, while preserving freedoms. That these issues are trans-national increases their importance and their difficulty to resolve. One underlying factor that contributes greatly to sound Internet Governance is the relationship between the public and private sectors. It only makes sense that when governments have the will and vision to bring their citizens into the Digital Age that the ICT sector is right beside them planning and implementing the tools and applications required to fulfill the vision. Through organizations such as the Global Information Infrastructure Commission (GIIC) and the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA), the industry is well positioned to play a key role in continuing to work with governments as well as other stakeholders in the development of sound and effective Internet Governance dialogue and solutions. This dialogue needs to take place at both the global and national levels. After all, most of the significant inventions and innovations — including the Internet — resulted from government and industry

The wildly popular Facebook app Friend Verifier has gone mobile! Launched this past March, Friend Verifier has given Facebook users the ability to scan their Facebook friends and pending friend requests against the national sex offender registry.

Since March, Friend Verifier has been mentioned all over the internet, radio and television, where over 650,000 users have been scanned against the sex offender registry.

Now VerifyAnybody Inc. launches an improved version of Friend Verifier that is accessible across all major mobile platforms and the Xbox 360, as well as an improved matching algorithm.

The new matching algorithm has a built in tri-color system; yellow where if a friend’s name matches with a sex offender, orange if their name and city or state matches, and red if their name, city or state and date of birth matches.

“The feedback from our users has been amazing. It has helped us shape this update to meet user expectations as well as broaden the access to Friend Verifier.” Said Joe Penora, CEO of Verify Anybody.

“We can’t expect social networks and dating sites to be our parents, telling us who and not to friend online. Our goal is to develop the best tools available so that we as indivduals can make better informed decisions in our lives both on and offline.”

With this update users can now access Friend Verifier on their iPhone, iPad, Android phones and tablets, Windows Phone and Blackberry. Additionally users can access Friend Verifier on the Xbox 360 via it’s latest update that includes Internet Expolrer.

“Many parents have commented that they want to use our app as a tool to talk to their kids about the dangers of Sex Offenders. We thought by creating a mobile site that is accessible on not only every mobile phone platform but also the Xbox 360, families can now easily use our app from the comfort of their living rooms, and have that very important conversation with their kids.”

To access Friend Verifier, users can still visit the Facebook App at https://www.facebook.com/friendverifierapp or visit the mobile website, http://www.MobileFV.com from any Internet browser on mobile phones, tablets and the Xbox 360.

Today we are facing several issues on the access of people to several antent and services over the Internet, causing from the direct affects (and side-effects) of political actions and decisions made by politicians. While politics is mainly a tool for governments to argue against each other, people are harming these arguments as a result of being victims of the decisions made by the government bodies, because of their authority and control on communication resources and internet as well. Control over the content over the internet has always been an idea broadly talked about. Forbidden content has always been a place of arguments among internet rulers. While some type of content such as child pornography, violation of intellectual property rights and other cybercriminal activities are known as an illegal online activities worldwide, some countries’ governments consider internet as a dangerous multipurpose media which is not enough under their control, trying to use different high tech methods and tools to control the access of their own internet users to such contents. On the other hand, some countries do the same access blocking activity for other countries’ internet users based on political sanctions and inter-governmental arguments. Despite of the logics behind each of these blocking type activities, there are common characteristics on both types: 1. Both type of blocking activities are a result of political thoughts, 2. The result would be the same in both: affecting

According to TerraCloud, Inc, a leading provider of cloud-based and on-premise technology solutions based in Central Florida, the tip of the iceberg is looming large for business users of Windows XP trying to navigate the way forward in technology. While the impending drop of support for XP from Microsoft in April 2014 appears to provide some time to respond, recent application vendor actions are painting a direr picture: the practical end of Windows XP is near. Smart business and IT leaders are planning, and acting, now to reduce risk and reap the productivity benefits of new platform options.

With each new wave of technology comes the business challenge of knowing when to wait and when to move, said Walt Wilson, technology industry veteran and executive vice president of TerraCloud. Moving from cards to terminals in the early 1980s or to PC networks for serious business applications a decade later met with the same reaction as we see with people today whove been happy with XP for the past 10 years. Why? and This is unnecessary were the early reactions, replaced by How quickly can I get this done? when the benefits achieved by others became clear. Often followed by panic when the old systems began to die. Thats where we are with Windows XP.

Evidence of this began to build over the past few weeks, presaged by Microsofts announcement during the summer that Office 2013 would not support Windows XP. Then in mid-September, Google announced that it would drop support for all Internet Explorer versions supported by Windows XP effective November 15th of this year. A few days later, Adobe announced that future versions of its popular Photoshop product would also not support XP. Adobe product manager Tom Hogerty stated We encourage all customers who are currently using Windows XP to begin making their migration plans now so they can fully take advantage of future Photoshop innovations as soon as they are available. TerraCloud advises business to have realistic action plans in place as soon as possible. Some of those plans include assessing current PC hardware for readiness to upgrade to Windows 7 or Windows 8, or evaluating whether desktop virtualization is the best path forward.

For some large and small businesses, non-profits, and government agencies the best plan is to buy new PC hardware, taking advantage of competitive price points for desktops and laptops that are pre-installed with Windows 7, Wilson commented. He also noted that other organizations may benefit from the lower capital investments and reduced operating costs made possible by using cloud servers to provide virtual Windows 7 desktops on existing hardware or inexpensive thin client devices.

For most organizations, internal or external IT expertise will be critical to determining the right upgrade program. This includes more than just an assessment of desktop computing requirementsall the other puzzle pieces like servers and network devices need to be evaluated to ensure that the final result meets expectations.

Sydney, Australia (PRWEB) June 01, 2011

For many years, Apple customers have enjoyed an online environment that was relatively malware-free. Coupled with the desgin and halo-effect of its popular iDevices, this has resulted in the phenomenal growth and adoption of Mac OS X and iMacs by both consumers and businesses globally.

This unique selling proposition, together with the growth and potential customer security complacency, has opened the doors for nefarious criminal groups to target the Apple Mac user as an easy and largely unprotected target especially from socially-engineered attacks.

TrustDefender Labs has seen an increase in activity on the Apple Mac malware front, as reported in the TrustDefender Labs in-depth report of April 2011. During the same period, Apple was also forced to acknowledge the latest wave of high profile threats, including MacDefender, MacSecurity, MacProtector and MacGuard (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4650), further attesting to the fact that the Apple Mac user base was now compelling enough for the bad guys to target in their money-making criminal activities.

Today, TrustDefender launches the public beta phase of TrustDefender Pro for Mac (TDpro for Mac) for home users, executives, corporations and small to medium businesses, all of whom are facing a growing level of online transactional security threats. TDpro for Mac provides the same level of transactional security that people around the world have experienced with TrustDefender Pro for Windows.

TDpro for Mac is not a replacement for existing Internet Security software, but rather complements existing tools to provide a true transactional security solution that secures Mac users when they transact or bank online.

TDpro for Mac is fully integrated with the TrustDefender Central Intelligence Server and will take advantage of all existing TrustDefender-provided policies for the many financial institutions and enterprises that have deployed TrustDefenders integrated security and fraud risk management solutions around the world.

For financial institutions, government agencies or any enterprise who have already implemented the TrustDefender integrated security and fraud risk management suite, this means that with the flick of a switch, all of their Apple Mac users are now protected. It also means that enterprises get a much broader view of their global customer and end user base profile within the Central Intelligence Server, providing a more comprehensive insight in to their security risk landscape and exposure to risk.

Unfortunately malware writers never sleep and they always target the low hanging fruit. It seems that the Apple Mac platform is now big enough to attract major criminals. We have seen the same level of development on the Windows platform over the past few years and we expect more transactional trojans for Apple Macs in the near future, comments Andreas Baumhof, CTO of TrustDefender. The bad guys already have extensive configuration files to perform very sophisticated and targeted attacks against internet banking, payment gateway, eCommerce and government sites. It is a natural extension to enable these capabilities on the Apple platform as well.

We are proud to release our first major Apple Mac version, providing a practical means for Enterprises to proactively mitigate their risk exposure. This is part of our strategy of delivering cross-platform solutions to combat the ever-growing threat of cybercrime., concludes Andreas Baumhof, CTO of TrustDefender.

More information on the TrustDefender Pro for Mac version including details how to participate in the beta testing can be found here: [http://www.trustdefender.com/go/macbeta.php
