Question by : Reinstalled Windows 7 on my Sony Vaios laptop from Ubuntu, and now I can’t find my built in webcam?
This was originally Windows 7. My brother’s friend changed it to Ubuntu at one point, then I finally asked my brother in law to change it back to Windows 7. I tried going on the Sony software site, downloaded Motion Eye Camera Capture Utility, but no matter how many times I download it I can’t find it when it’s done installing. At some points it gave me a message that it may have not been installed correctly, I try to re-install it “correctly” again and gave me messages “only installs in Windows 7″? When my laptop is already windows 7..

You sure they didn’t fuck with it? I mean open it up and look. Maybe they opened it and tried to change something but accidently disconnected the camera. If so, go to your local computer store, like Best Buy or Office Depot, and ask them to take a look at it. I can’t really say much without taking a look at it.

Well I want a well build laptop with a good C2D processor and at least 2GB of RAM for around $ 500-$ 600. I heard that Sony’s are well built and I was leaning toward the BZ model as it has a good processor and it also comes with a lisence for Vista and XP. Also it is a Business line and it won’t be loaded with so much bloatware. I could easily add another GB of RAM for $ 10. So I figure it would be the best bet. Was just wondering if anyone had any experience with the models as I can’t find any reviews. What would you all recommend other then a sony for my price range.

neither of them, you either get a bigger screen and less memory or the other way round, less screen size but more memory.
Sony’s are over priced, full of Sony Apps that are often useless; yes in general they are well built but then for the price you would expect it to be excellent. These specs are not great, for the same money you can get more with a different brand and get the same build quality but with greater specs do some more research you will benefit in the end.
A wise man once told me it does not matter if you have 60 or 600$ running shoes, you will still not run faster than your legs will carry you which ever you buy!

This Black Friday there is a sale at Best Buy for a “Sony 15″ Laptop w/Intel Dual Core Processor, 4GB Memory, 320GB Hard Drive, Windows 7″ for $ 399.99 and I was just curious if anyone knew if this is a good laptop/deal or not? I hope the Windows 7 is a 64-bit version as a 32-bit cannot see or make use of the entire 4GB if you have 4GB RAM

Sony CEO Howard Stringer has apologized for the PlayStation attack and promised service will be up and running again soon.
Stringer’s apology was one of several updates Sony has posted recently in its PlayStation blog.
Here is part of Stringer’s post:
To date, there is no confirmed evidence any credit card or personal information has been misused, and we continue to monitor the situation closely. We are also moving ahead with plans to help protect our customers from identity theft around the world. A program for U.S. PlayStation Network and Qriocity customers that includes a million identity theft insurance policy per user was launched earlier today and announcements for other regions will be coming soon.
In mid April, Sony’s PlayStation Network and Qriocity, its media streaming service, were shut down after a hacker attack.
The Japanese company later admitted that its Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) division, previously thought to be untouched by the hack that shuttered its PlayStation Network, had also been compromised.
Sony said it believes hackers stole personal information from about 25 million users and that the credit card information for some non-U.S. customers may have been taken
The Stringer letter was reported by The New York Times.
