Washington, DC (PRWEB) April 03, 2013

Speek.com, a platform for easy and visual conference calls, today announced it has launched a Windows 8 phone app for free, visual and mobile conference calls.

Speek plans to permanently rid the world of PINs and elevator music. Since its beta launch last year, Speek has experienced rapid growth and founders Danny Boice (CTO) and John Bracken (CEO) quickly saw the need to reach business users who were on-the-go, whether taking a meeting while stuck in traffic or on vacation.

Speek presented at Distilled Intelligence 2.0, the pitch competition created by Fortify.vc and sponsored by Microsoft. The company took first place at the competition, and after, continued to work with Microsoft’s Biz Spark team for resources to build the Windows app. “We’re putting out our Windows 8 app even before Android,” said co-founder and CEO John Bracken. “We feel it’s important to reach the Windows 8 demographic early and be at the forefront of the innovations the Windows 8 platform has to offer.”

The Speek Windows 8 mobile app allows users to choose an easy-to-remember username, instead of fumbling around for a traditional phone number and PIN. Participants talk instantly with one-click calls and no elevator music. Speek also makes it easy to add the contacts already in your phone to the call via text, email or a calendar invitation. Once on the call, users can see whos joined, whos talking, share images from their phone, as well as mute and remove participants.

Looking forward, co-founder and CTO Danny Boice sees many key advantages to working with the Windows 8 platform. “It’s key to be able to port our code to any Windows 8 platform from the phone to the tablet to the desktop, and that’s exactly what we intend to do. Not only will we support the Windows 8 phone, but also plan to extend our products to support both the tablet and computer as well.”

The Speek Windows 8 phone app is free and available here:

About Speek

Speek is easy, free and visual conference calling. Use a personal or business link (i.e., speek.com/YourName), instead of a phone number and PIN for conference calls. Nothing to download and no elevator music. See whos joined, whos talking, share files, use call controls and more. Reserve your free Speek link at http://www.speek.com.

Question by Konrad: How to load Android app I built myself onto my phone?
I build a simple Android app that runs now in the emulator in eclipse. How now do I install it on my phone? The phone is a HTC Magic if that is relevant.

Answer by vjmaliyil
developer.android.com should have all the info you need to run your app on your phone. But in short, once you create your app and .apk file using android adt, sdk and eclipse, you will basically move the .apk file to your android phone or tablet (enable third party software installs under settings==> application before you do this) and then click it to install. Well done and best of luck with your android programming. See you on the other side :)

Question by jayteemoney: how do I find out which version android my phone is using?
I’m trying to test out my flash app on my android phone and in my application & installer settings window there’s a text field that says version and inside it reads 1.0.0 do I need to change that to the right version number in order to test my app on my android phone?

Best answer:

Answer by Infoon
See , you develop an application for a SPECIFIC Android OS Version , say 2.2 (Froyo) ok.
Then you can run the app only on that Android Version and not any other.
1.0.0 means Android Eclair , which is pretty old now.
If your phone is not upgradable to the Version of Android that your app needs , you shall have to either buy a new one or flash a Rom.
P.S.If you’re gonna flash a Rom , be careful as it may void the warranty of your phone.
Good Luck!!

Windows Phone Dev Camp – London/Jun
Event on 2013-06-15 09:00:00

What is the Windows Phone Dev Camp?

With Windows Phone adoption rising quickly in the UK, the Windows Phone Dev Camps are events which will provide an introduction to the Windows Phone platform for developers who are hearing a lot about Windows Phone but perhaps haven’t built their first application yet.

We’ll have a number of short, snappy sessions to introduce the phone devices and development platform and tools and the major things that you need to know about in developing for Windows Phone – we’ll talk about storage, networking, user experience, and working with the core Phone functionality like using the camera, sensors, mapping and so on.

We’ll also have hands-on labs so if you prefer to take a hands-on approach there’ll be some labs that you can work through and someone there to help you along if you get stuck.

Spaces are limited, so register your place in the Windows Phone Dev Camp today!

What will be covered at the Windows Phone Dev Camp?

The day kicks off with welcome & coffee followed by a “design” and user experience session for all attendees. In the main area, presentations run with many demos to walk through the key features of application development and app submission to the store. In side rooms and workspace areas, attendees can choose to run through any of a selection of hands-on labs, with assistance if required from proctors. The day is rounded off with a short wrap-up, awarding of spot prizes and a chance for immediate feedback.

Your easiest option would be to buy a 15-20 dollar cisco router at walmart and setup a wireless network in your house. As far as using the internet through your PC i don’t believe android has any sort of functionality to receive a connection through usb or bluetooth, ect.

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) February 27, 2013

Maluuba announced today a new version of their popular voice powered Personal Assistant App for Microsoft Windows Phone 8. Maluuba is available as a free download now from the Windows Phone Store.

Maluuba allows users to find exact results by speaking to their smartphone. Maluuba’s proprietary, patent-pending language engine allows users to speak naturally without needing to learn rules or commands.

Sam Pasupalak, CEO of Maluuba, said, The era of blue links is over, users want exact results not just relevant ones. Maluuba provides users exactly what they were looking for by intelligently understanding what you’ve asked. From day one, our vision at Maluuba has been to change how people use their smartphones, to make it effortless to get things done.”

Maluuba for Windows Phone 8 offers a large feature set designed to help users manage their daily life and find things easily. Maluuba can help schedule appointments, place calls, check the weather, find businesses and restaurants, discover concerts and nearby events, find online shopping results, set reminders, play from a user’s music library and more.

“We developed 25 feature domains in under a year, some of which are not supported by Siri or any other personal assistant,” said Sam Pasupalak. “Shopping is a great example — a user can ask a query like ‘show me some prices for Halo 4′ and Maluuba will provide exact listings of products with prices and details.”

Maluuba, which launched as a free app for Android at TechCrunch Disrupt 2012 as a Battlefield finalist, chose to develop for Windows Phone 8 because of its growing user base and innovative developer tools. “Maluuba’s app for Android has received great praise and we were eager to expand to other platforms. We chose Windows Phone 8 because of Microsoft’s commitment to innovation. They’ve done an outstanding job with the platform and allowed us to do creative things not possible on other systems,” said Pasupalak. “We built the app from ground up to leverage all of the integration into the OS that Windows Phone 8 offers.

Apps come to life on Windows Phone thanks to features like Live Tiles and integration with text-to-speech, said Todd Brix, general manager, Windows Phone Apps, Microsoft Corp. Maluuba takes advantage of all of these features to enable Windows Phone customers to easily find and manage information, and perform actions.

Maluuba for Windows Phone includes these unique features specific to the Windows Phone 8 platform:

“Results” Live Tiles: Users can add items from their results screens, such as movies, events, or shopping items, to their Start screen.

“Feature” Tiles: Users can have quick access to all feature Tiles by pinning them to the Start screen for quick access to find results nearby.

Text-to-speech: Unlike Maluuba’s Android app, the Windows Phone 8 version will speak results to you as you use the application.

Other features include:

Restaurants, movies, events and businesses search

Alarms, Reminders and Meeting scheduling

Calling, texting and emailing

Directions and Weather search

Online shopping

Knowledge and Web Search

Outlook calendar integration

Maluuba’s app for the Windows Phone 8 platform is available now in the Windows Phone Store, or here: http://www.maluuba.com/wp8.
