Question by Tiny: What is a good monitor to use for graphic design? Asking professionals?

Answer by rickrudge
Hello Tiny,

Get the largest size that you can afford. I’ve heard that CTRs are slightly better than LCD as far as matching the colors better. However, LCDs are still great.

Question by professor: I need a new monitor for my computer and need some help deciding what kind to get?
My computer can handle a max resolution of 1280 x 1040. If I get a monitor with a higher resolution will I be wasting money or worse, ruining the picture?
I want a 19 inch and need to know if i should buy a monitor with a resolution that matches the max my computer can handle or does it even matter?

Question by Magic Light: what are the specifications that I should look for when choosing an LCD monitor?

Best answer:

Answer by tipstir
1. size (normal full) (piviot) or (widescreen) *see below
2. speed 6ms lower number is better but 6ms is very good
3. brightness and contrast also look for HD models better
4. stereo speakers or usb connections (optional but good)
5. stand (should be able to tilt up and down or pull up or down)

* normal screen say 19″ best view is 1280×1024 true 19″
* pivot this allows you go from landscape to portrait
* wide screen say 19″ best view is 1440×900 true 17″

The size of the screen is different when you consider to go with widescreen as the size of the full screen which is bigger.

So if you want to buy 19″ widescreen but you wan the size of normal full 19″ then you would have to buy 22″ widescreen.

Also if you want to have both HDTV and VGA Monitor you could get 26″ or 32″ HDTV with VGA PC port.

What do you think? Answer below!

thanks for the help everyone! im still having trouble! i have a vga going out to my pc and a dvi going out into a hdmi. i used a monstor dvi to hdmi converter to use the monster dvi cable. i can switch between vga and dvi with a button on the lcd monitor. the vga comes up fine. when i turn on the dvd player and switch to dvi mode it comes up fine as well with he samsung “on” screen. BUT when i put a dvd in the samsung hd850 the scepter 19 inch x9w the screen goes lite blue then black then lite blue then black. when i take the dvd out te samsung menu comes up perfect. i tried changing the dvd players specs fom 480 to 720 to 768. the lcds to res is only 1400×900. i changed from the dvd players rgb-normal to rgb-expand and from dvi A to dvi B. this is all in samsungs menu. I am pulling my hair out. the sceptre lcd displays the dvd player when it turns on but not the movie when i load it in the player!!!! What am i doing wrong? i feel like i ate a bowl of clown this morning guys! thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Simon T
I suspect that the DVD player is enabling the HDCP encryption that is part of the HDMI standard when it plays a DVD . If your monitor does not support HDCP then it will not display the image.

Try playing a home movie DVD, or one that does not have copyright requirements and see if that works. If it does then you would need to get a monitor that has HDCP support on the DVI-D port.

CORWEN, UK (PRWEB UK) 29 September 2012

The enhanced Total Phase Beagle USB 5000 v2 Analysers range replaces the award winning Beagle USB 5000 which is well known for its real-time analysis of USB 3.0 systems.

A new USB 2.0 version of the Beagle USB 5000 v2 is now available which extends the enhanced features previously only available for USB 3.0 analysis to USB 2.0 monitoring. Features include the unique USB 3.0 downlink of captured data to the host PC and the option of an advanced multi-level state machine to more accurately track down problem packets. Currently the Beagle USB 5000 v2 is the only USB analyser on the market able to stream and analyse data in real-time up to 5GB/s. This means that data can be captured at full speed over extended periods of time without the expense of a large capture buffer in the analyser.

The Beagle USB 5000 v2 is now available in three versions, each model upgradeable to the next version. This means that the user can add capability as and when he needs to without his initial analyser becoming obsolete.

Beagle USB 5000 v2 USB 2.0

This version supports USB 2.0, v1.0 and v1.1. It is an enhanced version of the existing Beagle USB 480 analyser and can be upgraded to a SuperSpeed Standard or Ultimate Analyser.

Beagle USB 5000 v2 SuperSpeed Standard

The standard version supports USB 3.0, USB 2.0, USB v1.0 and USB v1.1

Beagle USB 5000 v2 SuperSpeed Ultimate

Includes all the features of the Standard version plus USB 3.0 Downlink, an Advanced Multi-Level State Machine to assist with Triggering and Filtering, Simultaneous USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 Capture, Multi-analyser synchronisation and a massive 4GB Capture Buffer.

Customers of existing Total Phase Beagle USB 12 USB v1.0 and USB v1.1 Protocol Analyser, Beagle USB 480 and Beagle USB 5000 analysers are currently being offered generous trade-in deals from Total Phase to the new models.

Answer by hong=l
If you are only using this PC to capture and edit gameplay/ other stuff, it should be OK. In my experience Sony Vegas isn’t extremely demanding when it comes to hardware. However, if you are going to be capturing footage for hours at a time and storing a large amount of raw footage and edited video files, you may find that 1 TB fills up pretty soon. You may want to consider purchasing a second 1 TB HDD (around the $ 60 -$ 70ish range) just to be sure. If you decide not to do that, I would definitely have at least a 500 GB second HDD just to backup those edited files.

You know, I’ve fixed all sorts of LCD monitor problems. You name it…white display, dim/no display, blinking LED, no visual although the power indicator is on, stuck pixel, rainbow display and so on…

Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m not bragging or anything.

I couldn’t afford to attend one of those 2-3 day repair courses because they are waaay to expensive where I’m at. otherwise I don’t know what I would do!

You see, I came across this downloadable repair guide and it helped me solve lots of LCD monitor problems. What’s great about it is that it contains a ton of step-by-step pictures so a hardcore visual learner like yours truly can follow along easily.

I really can’t follow repair guides that are very heavy in text. Well, what can I say; I’m a visual type of person…

Anyway, I’m in a sharing mood right now so here are some tips I hope would assist you in some way…

Oh, by the way, you can get the download details for the LCD monitor repair guide I mentioned by . A new window will open, I believe.

Here’s one of the most common LCD problems: No display on screen yet the power indicator comes on temporarily. This irritating issue is induced by several factors such as defective backlights, busted high voltage transformer, IC inverter problem, spoiled filter caps, etc.

And if you want to know if the problem lies with the main board, then all you have to do is make certain that supply voltage flows to the inverter IC after the display goes off. If voltage is present, then you should focus on the primary components in the inverter board.

The first step is to check the main or primary section. Test all components in that area, especially the power FET, ampere main fuse and PWM IC. I’ve encountered this problem many times before and more often than not, the issue lies with these components.

Once again, if you want to learn how to solve a wide variety of LCD monitor problems quickly and easily, be sure to download step-by-step repair guide that’s jam-packed with photographic demonstrations.

Downloading such LCD monitor repair manual direct to your computer is now possible by following this underlined blue link:

Download details are available on that site so good luck and God bless!

Description of Windows 7 Resource Monitor can help you spot problems, set them and even make the right decision when it comes to upgrading your computer. In this article we will look at Similar tool in Windows XP and Vista, and how to use Resource Monitor tool in Windows 7
avoid queues
Resource Monitor is most useful when you need to define the so-called bottleneck in the computer. These are the parts of a computer, which limit its performance.
If you think that the flow of information by computer as driving a car down the road, a bottleneck is where the dual carriageway becomes a single road. Two lanes can not fit on a single lane in the same tailback speed and will, no matter how fast the cars could be journey to this point.
inside your computer are rather complicated, of course, but The principle is the same. For example, when Windows runs out of memory to store temporary information has to use some space on your hard disk instead. As Hard drive is about 100 times slower than memory, it slows everything down.
Resource Monitor can also reveal problems with specific programs. If replace the program is a performance problem may disappear.
Monitoring Performance in Windows XP
Resource Monitor counterparts exist in previous versions Windows. Windows XP Performance Monitor, for example, can be launched by clicking the Start button, clicking Run, typing and pressing perfmon.exe Enter.
This tool looks like, but it contains some useful basic information. The green line shows how difficult the processor is working, the blue line represents the hard drive implementation and the yellow line shows how the memory is used.
Windows Vista users should click on the Start button, type the Reliability and Performance Monitor and press Enter. Click Next when the account user Control window. The main part of the window contains graphs showing performance of your computer is the processor, hard disk, network and memory. More information can be found by clicking on the title line of the charts.
Reliability Monitor, available in Vista, a graph that shows how to computer is reliable. The problems are marked with icons from more information below so you can easily see if the problem is the cause of repeated crashes.
