Cantenna II with Macbook running Kismac
Macbook Support

Another cantenna project. A friend of mine is the director of a local non-profit organization in Ashtabula County, and they had permission to share Wi-Fi from a nearby church but couldn’t get a signal. I built a cantenna which solved the problem. This one is mine which I built for fun, but they’ll be borrowing it for a few weeks while they have an intern working for them. Building these has been a lot of fun and it’s nice to see them used for a good cause.

This one is mounted to a camera tripod I picked up at Micro Center. An ALFA Network AWUS036EH 802.11b/g USB adapter (which has an SMA connector) drives the whole thing. I haven’t had a chance to test it to any great extent, but Kismac does seem to pick up on more activity with this adapter than with my customized Linksys WUSB11 2.5. The ALFA adapter uses an RTL8187 chipset which is supported in Kismac 0.21a revision 319.

I used this website as my guide for building the cantenna:
www.turnpoint.net/wireless/cantennahowto.html

I’ve uploaded my cantenna photos at a larger size than I normally do for the benefit of anyone who is thinking of building one. It’s pretty easy, but you’ll need a soldering iron and drill, and if you want to clean up the edges of the can a Dremel is handy too. Have fun if you try this!

Question by Ohthebrave: What is the code to draw a horizontal and vertical line in FbIde(Qbasic) windows version?
Using this I can draw a line
“Line (60,60)-(150,150),8″

but it does not turn out on the vertical axis nor horizontal how would i do that? anyone

Answer by DynaSoar
Your example draws a diagonal line from the start point located at 60 = x and 60 = y to the end point located 150 = x and 150 = y. To create a vertical line and a horizontal line requires two separate instructions. Try the following code snippet by running the code as you enter each line separately to observe each effect. Note: You fail to mention your SREEN # so I used EGA 7 to keep the image as large as possible with color coded lines.

SCREEN 7
LINE (60, 60)-(150, 150), 8 ‘Grey diagonal line
LINE (60, 60)-(60, 150), 1 ‘Blue vertical line
LINE (60,150)-(150, 150), 2 ‘Green horizontal line

Question by fightedd: My laptop (Windows XP) says “value creation failed at line 8″?
This happens whenever I shut my screen or it goes into hibernation. I have to press OK like 10 times before it goes away. Im afraid if I dont fix it soon it will cause further problems.
Please help. Thanks

Answer by IWonder
um… Are you using a Windows theme software, like Style XP? then, that probably caused the problem.
Try changing a theme to another or just uninstalling Style XP.

If you’re not in this case, check out the programs recently installed and remove one by one until the problem is fixed.

p.s / I don’t think it’s gonna make further problems. you know, it’s just an abnormal crash between programs.

HTH.

Question by roberto t: I have to often type mails in Spanish by mail using Windows 7. How do I type the n with the line above?
Thank you for even trying to help me!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have to often type mails in Spanish using Windows 7.
There are a couple of problems, first the lack of Spanish punctuation on my English board, but my real
problem is that I can’t type the letter “enie”, the one “n” with a small line on the top. I was told to press shift, alt and a number of different numbers. I tried it all but to no avail. Is there anything I can really do that works or any program I can buy to solve this issue???? Years ago in another laptop someone downloaded a table of symbols and letters that corrected this problem. I would then press the right number combination pressing down control or alt or whatever it was and bingo!!!!
If Windows 7 doesn’t provide for this, what is the name of that program, list of symbols and where could I buy/get one???? It is a very common letter in Spanish and it is so frustrating to go around a meaning when you can not write the right word. For example, the word “year” in Spanish without that little line above, becomes the word for “anus”, and so many other crazy things.
Will anyone please help me???? THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ALT + 164 on the number pad gives you ñ. Hold down the ‘Alt’ key while you type in ’164′ on the number pad at the right hand side of the keyboard – when you then release the ALT key, the ñ will appear.

PS I’m using Widnows 7.
