Question by Fool for the City: Having an issue with “The Sims 3″?
I recently bought an HP TouchSmart tx2 computer with Windows 7, “The Sims 3″ and the expansion to “the Sims 3″. I installed both “The Sims” and its expansion to my computer and was downloading content from “The Sims” website. However one (or more) of the downloads caused the game to not work.

I went through my computer, did “Change/Remove Programs” and got rid of everything associated with the game before re-installing it. I reinstalled both the game and its expansion, and both worked last night. However when I attempted to play the game today, it didn’t work. The game froze up, so I closed it, but when I re-opened it again nothing came up.

What should I do? Get another copy of both games? Try the “Change/Remove Programs” again and re-install it?

Right mouse click on the Sims 3 Icon and tell it to run as administrator. Its probably trying to access something that is blocking it out.

Question by minikarter: How much faster will having windows 7 rather than Vista make my computer?
If I was to upgrade I’d get the “from vista to windows 7″ pack.. would I lose everything on my computer so I’d have to back it up or is it a straight forward upgrade/install?

I’m also considering getting more RAM .. the ultimate aim is to help make my computer run more smoothly with less strain on the CPU.

Question by : To anyone having problems deleting/moving mkv files?
I see sooooooooooooo many threads all over the internet with people saying they can’t unlock mkv files. I am here to save the day so to speak.

Several threads will give you all sorts of weird solutions. Some of them even work. For instance, using software named unlocker will unlock the file for you so you can transfer/delete it. Sometimes this does not work though.

The reason mkv files lock up is because of DIVX. DIVX is a codec and a media player to play movies with. For some reason DIVX locks up mkv files for no reason. All you have to do is delete DIVX and the problem will go away. Make sure to delete all software with DIVX in it. I’m not sure which DIVX software causes it so delete them all to be safe. You don’t need them anyway. IMPORTANT: REBOOT YOUR COMPUTER AFTER YOU UNINSTALL DIVX AND IT’S COMPONENTS. IF YOU DON’T REBOOT THE PROBLEM WILL REMAIN UNTIL YOU DO. Some of you might be like, “well hey what can I use to play movies that windows media player won’t play”?

All you have to do is download VLC media player. If you want to be on the safe side download a couple of movie codecs as well. Just go to google and search for movie codec packs and the rest is easy. Same with VLC media player, just google VLC and download it.

This is very personal for me because I had this problem with MKV files for years and had no idea how to fix it. So, here’s the answer. Enjoy.

Also I realize I am not really asking a question here…I’m kind of asking a question and giving the answer at the same time. Please don’t delete this as it will help tons of people so they don’t have to go searching through tech support forums. I suppose I could go to every tech support forum and post the solution but that would be way to time consuming.

Did you clean up the pc windows registry before and after uninstalling and reinstalling the software? Installing or reinstalling a new copy over an old copycan cause problems with some complex software and requires registry clean up. This article can help: http://zardozz.com/zz/2010/11/a-perfect-software-uninstaller.html/ Invalid entries in the dynamic link library (DLL) section of the registry can cause serious application failures.

If you scan detected and fixing errors in the pc registry it can stop you from having these typically frustrating and confusing DLL nightmares. When these conflicts occur it takes up cpu time for the pc to sort out. The free versions of a good registry cleaner software is often enough to take care of these problems. If the problems are more complicated to fix you might need the pro versions. I hope this info helps. There is also a good site on how to uninstall software properly at: http://uninstallmysoftware.com and also a good program on increasing pc health and speed at this review article: http://uninstallmysoftware.com/review-selecting-a-pc-registry-cleaner/

Could be an infection on your computer. I’ve used Windows Live Mail for quite some time, both with Vista and Windows 7 without any problems

Question by Veronica: Is it possible to download Int. Explorer 7 (or 8?) “without” having Windows Validation?
Hello Out There to any “Kind Yahoo Souls”…

I am STUCK with what I have on this computer that was provided to me and set up by a close friend… (obviously not containing Windows Validation…)..

I am hardly “that” computer savvvy…. and have hardly the $ resources to “not” ask this question….

I simply want to upgrade from a very old version of Internet Explorer… but without repercussions, e.g., losing or ruining my computer’s functions, etc… :(

Can anyone offer suggestions or some direction?

PLEASE don’t be too severe…. and send answers scolding me, telling me to buy the software… I’m laid off, with 3 kids… xmas is coming and I have NOTHING to offer Microsoft at this time to simply upgrade some software…

This is simply the position I am in and I am hopeful that someone could at least give me some direction…

THANKS SO MUCH GUYS for even listening..!!

Hope you have had a decent day….

What problems are you having with it Christopher? I now have XP, but the hubs has 7 and I had it for years. Microshaft is not known for good customer service OR good NEW products…you have to wait till they have been out awhile. Greg ( the hubs)will be home shortly, so maybe he can help, just add information.
