In a neon lit cafe far, far, away virtual competitors from around the galaxy are watching the tension build as they compete on the air puck tables – air hockey in an alternate dimension – to determine the ultimate player. Gamers can roam the cafe and challenge individual inhabitants or match-up with a friend in multiplayer mode in this fast paced game of co-ordination and skill.

Taking to the table from a 3D first person perspective, gamers must use the iPad touch screen to hold their virtual paddle and serve, hit and defend the puck across the table. Points are scored whenever a player succeeds in getting the puck past their opponents paddle, the aim of the game being to score the most points to win the match. In-game opponents offer a variety of artificial intelligence, playing styles and personalities, often interacting with outrageous verbal comments during a match.

To become the AstroPlasm champion players must beat all of these characters in one of four different game modes; regular, twin-puck, magnetron and survivor – featuring exploding pucks, magnetized laser barriers and ever-increasing puck speeds respectively. Upgrades can be obtained from the in-game bar, providing users with faster pucks and alternative paddles offering greater curve, shot angle and precision, while match statistics are recorded to give users a perspective on the strength and weaknesses of their challenges so far.

Rated 12+ AstroPlasm offers an addictive, fast paced and tension filled challenge for all iPad gamers. An intuitive tutorial ensures a pick-up-and-play experience while the wealth of game modes, multiplayer and charmingly quirky – yet highly polished – game environment ensure a long lasting challenge.

AstroPlasm is the ultimate air hockey style game for the iPad that literally transports users to another dimension. commented Paul Wilkinson of Subspark Entertainment. Our aim was to create an in-game environment and opponents with real personality, and when engaged in a match you really want to beat these guys.

AstroPlasm, experience air hockey like you’ve never before. Jump into another dimension and climb your way to championhood with wild and whacky personalities and an unforgettable soundtrack.

Bloombase storage security systems enable non-disruptive data privacy over and above what was previously achievable only with host-based, fabric-based or storage-based solutions. With Bloombase agentless data security solutions, even the most complex and throughput-demanding media data services will benefit from the privacy and integrity assurance capabilities for at-rest data security. Combining ATTO Celerity Fibre Channel adapters and ATTO FibreConnect SAN switches, media and entertainment professionals can rely on the Bloombase SAN encryption security system to protect their sensitive media contents with uncompromised security stored on SANs.

BlackBerry Continues Dominance Across U.S., According to BoomBox, Myxer’s Monthly Report on Mobile Entertainment Trends

Miami, FL (PRWEB) April 7, 2010

While iPhone and Android are quick to grab much of the headlines these days, RIM has shown impressive results and rapid growth, according to Myxer’s latest report, BoomBox. For this month’s report, Myxer takes a hard look at year–over-year growth across smartphone platforms, and provides a breakdown of RIM data as it compares to the overall Myxer audience of more than 33 million users.

According to the study, RIM continues to far outpace Windows, Palm, webOS, Android, iPhone and Symbian based on mobile visits, growing from a 58% market share in March 2009 to a 63% share in March 2010. Of the other operating systems, Android comes in second, more than doubling over the same time period from 7% to 17%, while iPhone makes a modest jump to 4%, up from 2% from the previous year. Symbian and webOS occupy the smallest percentage of market share with less than 2% combined, while Windows Mobile was the biggest loser moving from 21% in 2009 down to 10% in 2010.

Interestingly, the same holds true when comparing total downloads for the month of March 2010, where BlackBerry accounted for a whopping 72% of the 22 million smartphone content downloads, followed by Android at 14% and Windows Mobile at 7%. The others did not fare as well, with iPhone only grabbing a 2% share, Symbian a 3% share and webOS and Palm only representing 1% of smartphone downloads.

RIM vs. iPhone & Android: Regional Breakdown

Looking at the regional breakdowns of the most popular smartphone operating systems, RIM also emerges as the clear leader. Across all U.S. states RIM is dominant in 44 of them, even when you combine Android and iPhone users for each state. BlackBerry only loses to the iPhone and Android in Alaska, Hawaii, Kentucky, and Louisiana, with Nevada and Texas representative of ‘swing states’, or less than a 10% differential in users.

RIM Handset Breakdown by Downloads and Gender

In terms of BlackBerry downloads on Myxer, the BlackBerry Curve 8330 was the most widely used by far, accounting for roughly 4.8 million of the total 22 million of the smartphone downloads for March 2010. The Blackberry Curve 8320 represented the lowest number of downloads with only 384,190.

As broken down by gender, women were surprisingly dominant across all BlackBerry devices, with the BlackBerry Pearl 8130 having the largest concentration of female users at 70%, and the BlackBerry Storm 9530 having the highest concentration of male users at 46%.

“With BlackBerry users downloading 16 million pieces of mobile content a month and growing, Myxer represents one of the largest communities of RIM users in the world,” said Myk Willis, CEO of Myxer. “Despite what you may hear or read about in the press, RIM’s audience still dominates across the U.S., and far surpasses iPhone and Android in a number of important categories. We continue to be very impressed by RIM’s growth, and remain confident that it will continue to be a preferred platform of choice by a wide cross section of mobile content consumers.”

Since 2005 Myxer has cataloged various data points: age, gender, geographic location, phone model, manufacturer, carrier, as well as the operating system of each handset that initiated a download from its delivery platform that now supports more than seven million monthly unique visitors downloading over 90 million content items from Myxer each month.

Miami, FL (PRWEB) February 26, 2010

When it comes to what mobile platform is most popular by users in a particular region, the results may surprise you. According to BoomBox, Myxer’s monthly report on mobile entertainment consumption habits, iPhone dominates states across the country, but Android users have closed the gap and have actually surpassed iPhone users in eight states, with seven of them coming from West and Midwest states including Arizona, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming.

The results were provided by Myxer’s BoomBox report for January 2010, which also revealed the latest demographic and consumption habits based on more than one million unique Myxer users from Android and iPhone operating systems.

Android Handset Demographics and Consumption Habits

Of particular interest in this month’s BoomBox report was a breakdown of content downloads by music genre:

Overall, Motorola DROID handsets were the most diverse in terms of downloading different genre types, consuming 64% of their content from the Rock, Comedy, Pop, Country, and Other categories.
Conversely, 81% of downloads by the HTC Dream (G1) came from the Hip-Hop/R&B genre; the highest percentage of Hip-Hop/R&B downloads by any Android handset on Myxer.

BoomBox also compared Android handset breakdown in terms of age and consumption habits, where it was revealed that the average woman downloaded more mobile entertainment than the average man across every single Android device, and that Android traffic skews older than the average audience profile seen downloading mobile entertainment from Myxer.

Handset preference by gender was also a major surprise with Google’s Nexus One being the most popular device among men of all the Android Handsets, with 75% of registered Myxer users being male. In contrast, the Samsung Behold II and the HTC myTouch both comprise the largest percentage of female users on Myxer, with 67% of users on each handset being female.

Specific to individual Android handsets, BoomBox revealed that:

Google’s Nexus One has the largest percentage (54%) of users over the age of 24.
Users on the Samsung Behold II handset initiate the largest number of downloads of any of the Android handsets, consuming an average of 14 pieces of content per month per user.
Android users browsing the mobile web on the Motorola DROID consume the least amount of mobile entertainment, with the average user consuming four pieces of content per month.
HTC’s Dream is the handset of choice for the younger demographic with 57% of the downloads Myxer sees from HTC Dream handset being initiated from users who are between the age of 18 and 24. This is also the largest percentage of users in this age demographic on any Android device on Myxer.

“For this month’s BoomBox report, we conducted a deep dive into our Android user base in hopes of uncovering regional, demographic, and consumption trends across users on the most popular handsets. We think this research will provide valuable information and insights to both marketers and developers, especially over the long term, where developing trends can be identified and factored into key business decisions,” said Myk Willis, CEO of Myxer.
