Queensland, Australia (PRWEB) October 15, 2012

According to an international survey of 3,500 application developers, 16% more app developers believe that Apples iOS will win the battle over enterprise apps than those who think Android will win. While this is only an opinion poll, the opinions are very educated ones. Also, the results of the survey are very likely to reflect the intentions of app developers to use iOS over Android.

The survey, called the 2Q 2012 Mobile Developer Survey, conducted by international IT research firm International Data Corporation (IDC), also indicated that developers are interested in expanding integration with cloud services, and are curious to see what develops when Microsofts Windows 8 mobile platform is released.

Of those surveyed, 53.2% said they believe that Apples iOS would win, while 37.3% felt that Android would win. This represents significant movement from last years 3Q 2011 survey, in which each company had the confidence of 44% of those polled.

According to IDC Vice President for Mobile and Connected Consumer Platforms, Scott Ellison, For developers, Android appears to be evolving more toward a consumer play, which in turn provides a key competitive opening for Microsoft in the enterprise mobile app space. This perception is one of many that affected the results of the survey. There were many other factors cited by the respondents of the survey. The majority of those in favour of Apple cited the current domination of Apples iPad in the apps market.

Another issue for many was the perceived fragmentation of the Android market, with numerous companies making what seem to be myriad Android devices. The sheer number of manufacturers and different devices increases the likelihood that an app could fail on one companys device. This, in turn, erodes the confidence in app developers that they will get a favourable return on their investments.

Another factor is Android malware. Apple seems to have the same exemption from malware in the mobile device world that it does in the computer world. Meanwhile, Android seems to be the favourite target for hackers and malware perpetrators. Androids only good news from this survey is that interest in their devices from developers seems to have stabilised this year, rising a surprising 2.9%.

The other finding that holds the most ramifications and consequences for the mobile app industry is that 83% of developers are committed to using cloud services and developing back end cloud solutions. This is the same as last years survey, but still an indication that apps developers need to start integrating cloud services with their apps soon.

Craig Aitken, Owner and Director of SmarterApps, says the information in the survey agrees with what his company has experienced in their interaction with app developers: Among apps developers, the confidence level seems to be a lot higher for Apple and iOS. Developers seem to have doubts and questions about creating Android apps right now, but nobody coming to us for an iOS app is lacking in confidence.

Aitken continued, The bottom line is that Apple is on top right now. Android could fight back with their Nexus 7, and the Windows 8 devices on the horizon are definitely intriguing, but Apples iOS is a known quantity right now.

Aitken concluded, Money doesnt lie, and the majority of apps developers are putting their money on Apple and iOS.

SmarterApps is a leading app builder in Australia. They are a one-stop solution for mobile app creation. They specialise in building iPhone and iPad apps for businesses, and making mobile app development a smooth and professional process. What exactly is client imaging? Does it deal with getting an image of the HDD and stuff like that?
Need to know ASAP. Thanks!

Answer by Andrew S
If this is in a job description it will refer to putting a standard system image on each computer as one step of setting it up. Generally that is fairly simple, copying the image from a prepared image on DVD or from the network.

Google certainly has enterprise Google Apps customers such as Virgin America Airlines and Genentech, but it only owns a tiny percentage of the enterprise e-mail market. The bulk of Google Apps migrations have come from the public sector — setting off a fight for cash-strapped state government agencies between Google and Microsoft, with its BPOS (business productivity online suite) cloud service.

With tighter budgets than most corporations, government agencies have been more apt to move to cloud-based services that allow e-mail and documents to be stored in remote data centers.

But with all these documents being saved and shared in Google’s cloud service, two Google Apps users who spoke to CIO.com — the City of Panama City, Florida and the nonprofit American Lung Association of New England — were both surprised that Google did not provide better tools for actually monitoring the documents.

Both organizations have moved from old and discordant technologies to a cheaper, more modern cloud alternative in Google Apps for e-mail, collaboration and productivity apps.

[Slideshow: Gmail Tips: 10 Features to Try Now]

IT directors for both organizations say they took a risk in deploying Google Apps in 2008, and learning curves aside, they have no regrets about the move. Neither organization misses paying for upgrades or managing servers. And even older employees who were tied to Outlook or Lotus Notes for decades have adjusted to using Gmail and working on documents within a browser and saving them to the cloud.

But managing the docs after they had been saved in Google Docs proved to be a cumbersome process, says Panama City Network Administrator Richard Ferrick.

“I needed to view all the documents stored in Google Docs and get data on who they belong to, who else that person has shared the docs with and whether they were shared internally or outside our domain,” says Ferrick. “I couldn’t do that with Google Docs. I would have to log in as each person and see what was there.”

Panama City’s Public Records Problem

Panama City, which has been using GAPE ($ 50 per user per year) since 2009, came to the cloud service after using Lotus Notes and an ancient Domino server for too long, says Ferrick.

He pushed for Google Apps because he was a happy gmail user himself and wanted better mobility for city workers, who had been slowed down by having to log in through the firewall using a Cisco VPN client to check Lotus Notes e-mail.

But Google Apps was still a brave new world for users not accustomed to collaborating online and using SaaS (software as a service) applications.

“We had to do some training on storing documents in the cloud and sharing them instead of e-mailing them,” Ferrick says.http://www.bestlaptopbattery.co.uk/sony/vgp-bps2.htm

But he was still stymied by the inability to take an inventory of the city’s documents within Google Apps.

“In Florida, we put a lot of documents out there as public record, but we want to have control over them.”
