Speek.com, a platform for easy and visual conference calls, today announced it has launched a Windows 8 phone app for free, visual and mobile conference calls.

Speek plans to permanently rid the world of PINs and elevator music. Since its beta launch last year, Speek has experienced rapid growth and founders Danny Boice (CTO) and John Bracken (CEO) quickly saw the need to reach business users who were on-the-go, whether taking a meeting while stuck in traffic or on vacation.

Speek presented at Distilled Intelligence 2.0, the pitch competition created by Fortify.vc and sponsored by Microsoft. The company took first place at the competition, and after, continued to work with Microsoft’s Biz Spark team for resources to build the Windows app. “We’re putting out our Windows 8 app even before Android,” said co-founder and CEO John Bracken. “We feel it’s important to reach the Windows 8 demographic early and be at the forefront of the innovations the Windows 8 platform has to offer.”

The Speek Windows 8 mobile app allows users to choose an easy-to-remember username, instead of fumbling around for a traditional phone number and PIN. Participants talk instantly with one-click calls and no elevator music. Speek also makes it easy to add the contacts already in your phone to the call via text, email or a calendar invitation. Once on the call, users can see whos joined, whos talking, share images from their phone, as well as mute and remove participants.

Looking forward, co-founder and CTO Danny Boice sees many key advantages to working with the Windows 8 platform. “It’s key to be able to port our code to any Windows 8 platform from the phone to the tablet to the desktop, and that’s exactly what we intend to do. Not only will we support the Windows 8 phone, but also plan to extend our products to support both the tablet and computer as well.”

The Speek Windows 8 phone app is free and available here:

About Speek

Today PDF Rotator released the new freeware product PDF Rotator, which is an intuitive new solution to a problem which has plagued computer users for a great deal of time. PDF docs have become one of the major formats for storing and transferring digital documents. However, because these files are often created by scanning physical sources, problems with orientation of the text often arise during the creation process. Pages within PDF documents are often incorrectly rotated by human error or machine glitches, causing the finished product to be unusable by anyone who cannot rotate their screen to counter the effects. With an easy to grasp interface, PDF Rotator is feature-rich and has all the power needed to transform even complex PDF documents into a format readable to humans.

In addition to simple rotation at 90 or 180 degrees in either direction, PDF Rotator has the power to rotate in a specified page range. This allows users to target single pages or sections of a PDF, whose rotation does not match the rest of the document, creating a consistent feel for future readers. All of the changes made are permanent and even work on protected PDF documents, making this a superior solution to some PDF readers which have in-app rotation capabilities. PDF Rotator even has a special batch mode, which converts entire directories of PDF files that have similar formatting problems with a single set of instructions.

PDF Rotator has been designed for flexible deployment, and is supported on all versions of Windows from XP through Windows 8. Even better, its shareware licensing allows this new tool to be offered as freeware. With an unpacked size of only four megabytes, PDF Rotator can be installed even on older machines with smaller hard drives without fear of creating system bloat. Screenshots of the software and more information are available on PDF Rotators website at http://www.pdfrotator.com.

PDF Rotator also has a portable version available here:

Ambient Design, the leading award-winning creator of realistic art painting software for Windows, Mac, iPad and iPhone, announced today that it has been chosen by Sony to highlight the creative touch screen capabilities of the new Sony VAIO PCs for Windows 8 at the Sony VAIO fall product line launch, held in New York City. ArtRage Studio and Studio Pro v. 3.5 are being demonstrated on touch-enabled VAIO PCs by a variety of artists, showing the benefits to professional and even beginning artists.

ArtRages powerful software lets you become an amazing digital artist, providing the experience of actually painting digitally on a computer touch screen canvas with oil paints that smear and blend, and watercolors that flow together to create soft, wet gradations, just as they would in a traditional art studio.

ArtRage to be Included with Select Sony VAIO Touch PC’s in the US Closest Experience to Actual Painting

Included with select models of Sony VAIO PC’s: Sony VAIO Tap 20, Sony VAIO Duo 11, Sony VAIO L24, Sony VAIO E14P and Sony VAIO T13, ArtRage Studio and Studio Pro 3.5 are the only art programs that provide the most realistic tactile experience closest to actual painting, with an easily accessible user interface. ArtRage is so easy to use, it even allows children and beginning digital artists to create realistic art works that appear to be painted by traditional art media, like oil on canvas or watercolors on special papers. ArtRage can even record and play back actual paint strokes, with additional advanced features for color blending, scripting, and content sharing tools. For a detailed list of features of the different versions, see:

XTime is now using Storage Made Easy’s SaaS unified Cloud File Server Platform. XTime is the leading provider of web scheduling and customer relationship management (CRM) solutions for automotive service departments in North America, covering more than 4,800 dealerships.

We ran an extensive trial prior to choosing Storage Made Easy, said David Richards, application specialist, XTime. We’ve been using the system for more than a year now while expanding our user base. We chose Storage Made Easy because we wanted a familiar, folder-based solution that would be easy for our people to use on their own. File versioning and folder security were also requirements, which SME provides. And although we didnt know it when we first signed on, SMEs support has been truly outstanding. We made several requests for enhancements, which were implemented within days and exceeded our expectations.

The Storage Made Easy Cloud Service Broker provides a Cloud file server to access public and private information stores that can be viewed and managed in an aggregated fashion. For example, an administrator can configure public folders, such as HR, marketing, or projects to be stored on Amazon S3 or other clouds while enabling users to add their own Google apps, Box, DropBox etc accounts. This can be complemented by adding access to files located within an in-house storage appliance. Users can see and manage all these files in an aggregated view from any Linux, Mac or Windows desktop or any iOS, Android, BlackBerry, or Windows phone mobile device.

The cloud file server administrator can control user access, permissions, and notifications across a range of clouds. They can use file event auditing, which logs any user access or file event using geolocation information or set global encryption keys for across clouds for security.

Business file sharing is also a key part of the system. Users can send links that they set to expire at a specific time. This can be combined with security options in which links shared cannot be opened without a password.

XTime is a tried and tested performer, with nearly 50 million appointments booked through its system, so were gratified that they chose us said Jim Liddle, CEO, Storage Made Easy. Our Cloud File Server is completely open, so XTime can decide the best cloud combination for them, while we provide them with the controls to manage and monitor their information.

About Storage Made Easy

Storage Made Easy provides a cloud service broker platform and related services either as SaaS or a hybrid on-premise solution. Question by : Windows Easy Transfer for Windows 7?
I am migrating back to XP/Pro from Windows 7. I backed up my data and settings under Windows 7 to an external hard disk. I then re-installed XP/Pro and am well into getting it patched current etc. But when I downloaded and installed “Windows Easy Transfer for Windows 7″ or a nearly identically named one called “Windows Easy Transfer” I am unable to select my XP/Pro as the “new” computer. It only offers to let me save the data. Not restore it.

Any ideas?

Best answer:

Answer by sysadmin
Windows Easy Transfer does not support backward compatibility. (aka Windows 7 to XP transfer )
I am afraid there are no tools that supports it.

You may read the following review

and check pickmeapp, pcmover and zinstall as possible solutions.

Firewheel Design is pleased to announce launch of Blinksale, the easiest way to send invoices online. Blinksale, a Web-based application, allows its subscribers to create, send, and manage invoices anywhere with an Internet connection.

Specifically created for small businesses, independent contractors, and freelancers, Blinksale makes it a breeze to quickly create an invoice for a client, then send that invoice via email. Open, closed, and past-due invoices can then be tracked and managed with Blinksale’s simple interface.

“For many people, especially freelancers and independent contractors, the off-the-shelf financial software found at retail stores is too complicated or expensive,” notes Josh Williams, Firewheel Design’s Founding Principal. “Our own frustration with the current offering of invoicing software is what led us to build Blinksale. We were tired of using difficult, pricey software to create ugly invoices. So we created something different. It’s fast, efficient, and extremely easy to use.”

Because Blinksale is a “hosted” web-application, subscribers can choose to manage their invoices from any location with an internet connection. Persons using Apple’s Mac OS X operating system can even synchronize their invoices with Apple’s iCal application.

“Larger companies with complex accounting needs will probably find Blinksale to be a bit too simplistic. But that’s okay with us. Simplicity has been our goal since day one, and we believe this simplicity is what a lot of people are looking for today,” says Williams.

Currently, Blinksale features a variety of professionally-designed invoice templates, supports five different currencies, and allows multiple workers from a single organization to use the same account.

Subscriptions to Blinksale start at $ 6 per month, which includes up to 20 invoices. Additionally, $ 12 per month and $ 24 per month subscriptions can be purchased allowing the subscriber to create 100 or 500 invoices respectively. A free account that allows users to create 2 invoices per month is also available. There is a 30-day free trial period on all subscriptions.

Subscribers can sign up for Blinksale today at:

Metafy LLC announces Anthracite Web Mining Desktop software version 1.5, now including prebuilt solutions and powerful new capabilities for conditional processing and enhanced URL exporting.

New included solutions accomplish valuable text processing tasks without requiring complicated scripting, including: Converting Daily SEC Filings into RSS Feeds; Monitoring webpages and stock prices for changes; Building maps of related keywords; Filtering web server logs; Capturing blog and podcast feed information into SQL; and Ranking top keywords for search terms using the Google API.

“For two years, Anthracite has been helping customers build high value automated text processing systems that previously required custom programming or repetitive manual extraction,” explains Joe Pezzillo, Founder of Metafy. “Anthracite 1.5 makes it even easier for non-programmers to capture their business data from the internet, making more information accessible because users can do it themselves.”

Anthracite saves time and money by automating the many repetitive web processing tasks for which programmers or system administrators might not want to take the time to write code.

More than sixty additional sample documents show users the building blocks to construct systems that can, for example, convert information on webpages and in emails into databases, find the context of terms on webpages (including in foreign languages), integrate legacy UNIX commands into web systems, extract diverse elements from multiple sites into a report, or build a time-series log of a specific dynamic data point available on the web.

New built-in conditional processing gives users the ability to filter and categorize text simply, eliminating the use of hard to maintain code.

Anthracite works with customers own data on their own computers: use it to process company websites, build custom feeds and reports, filter log files, user comments, and more.

Anthracite has been tested against large HTML input files (60MB+) and is used regularly by hundreds of customers to process thousands of documents for their businesses. In some cases, Anthracite saves days every month of what had been tedious hand processing.

The software requires Apple’s MacOS X 10.4 or newer, can be downloaded for a two-week free trial, and costs only US$ 99.

Metafy LLC was founded in 2003 by Internet entrepreneur and former Apple

researcher Joe Pezzillo and is currently located in Boulder, Colorado

USA. The company’s mantra is “Access Information, Distribute

Knowledge”(tm). For more information on the company or Anthracite Web
