Question by : How to re-install Windows 7 / erase C drive?
How can I erase my C drive and basically get a fresh start on my computer?
It runs kind of slow and I’ve tried everything…spyware, virus remover, registry cleaner…all of those things.
I have a net-book and it runs on Windows 7(“Starter”?). I heard I can re-install Windows 7 and it will also erase my C drive. So is there any way I can re-install Windows or erase my C drive for FREE or CHEAP?

Question by : Can a Windows 7 machine have a FAT32 hard drive?
I’m planning to upgrade my Windows 98 SE into Windows 7, so can Windows 7 have a FAT32 hard drive? Also, can you guys tell me what I must do first before installing Windows 7 (such as backing up my documents etc.), and don’t nag about irrelevant things like “Your windows 98 stuff won’t work with Windows 7″ please.
The machine was actually designed for windows 2000/XP, so I think it might be able to handle Windows 7.

Yes, it can, but if your computer ran W98SE, it probably won’t be able to run Windows 7.

There should be an office program already on the Netbook. I am not sure if an external hard drive would work with one of these.

Question by Amit K: Hard drive with “Windows 7″ from my laptop not showing up in my other XP machine.?
My Toshiba laptop has Windows 7 in it with FINGER PRINTING PASSWORD. After scanning my finger or entering BIOS password my hard disk unlocks and I can use my laptop. Now that laptop is dead because if its motherboard. The hard disk is working fine. I purchased SATA USB cable and attached the Toshiba hard disk to my other system which has XP through the USB port. It shows that a new hardware is installed and is ready to use but it doesn’t show up in my computer or disk management. I guess I have to unlock (by using BIOS password) it first and then only will be able to use it but I don’t see the hard disk anywhere then how would I enter the password?

I don’t think it’s a cable problem because the hard drive is making sound like it is working and in the XP machine it shows that the hard drive is installed and ready to use.

I really need to extract the data from my Toshiba hard drive otherwise I am doomed.
Thanks for any help. Please let me know if you need any more information.

You may be in trouble if the hard drive is encrypted. Most laptops do that, but the encryption code is actually on the hard drive itself, in it’s firmware. The only way to open it is to send it back to the vendor and get them to open it up.
Another option would be to find a similar laptop, and try to “open” the hard drive via the bios, and leave it open.

Question by Drew T: Why isn’t my drive enclosure working?
i bought an A-power 1.8″ usb drive enclosure and put in my 20gb toshiba mk2004gal and plugged the wires in to the pc. i hear the sound as if something got plugged in and the pc says “found new hardware>USB TO IDE> USB Mass Storage Device.” Its stays there for a few seconds and then i hear the sounds as if something was unplugged from the pc and it says “A Problem occured during installation. the device may not work properly blah blah blah.” So i unplug it goto the “device manager>universal serial bus” and plug it back in. It pops up in the list and i goto properties and it says “no drivers are installed for this device.” The cd that came with the drive only has windows 98 drivers because supposedly XP doenst need them. I have download many drivers from many different sites and i have made no progress. I read in another thread that it might be cause o the drive letter but when its plugged in for the few seconds that windows detects it, there is no other drive shown under disk management. If anyone can help feel free to do so. Here are the specs of my pc just incase it helps.

Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2
System Manufacturer: Dell Inc.
System Model: Dimension 4700
BIOS: Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A09
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 1278MB RAM

It is correct that XP doesn’t generally need drivers for USB enclosures. Drivers for a USB enclosure will not activate unless the drive is installed properly. Make sure the drive you have installed in the enclosure is jumpered for Master and the wires are plugged in properly.
