Question by : How can i get windows to boot from a disk if changing the BIOS didn’t help?
I recently installed windows 7 on an old desktop, but it’s apparently not capable of that OS, as it has significantly slowed down. Now I just want to wipe it and reinstall XP, but when i try to follow every guide and boot from the disc, the computer just brings me to a menu with the options, “Earlier version of windows”, “Windows 7″, and “Microsoft Windows Recovery Console”. It doesn’t immediately boot from the disc like most guides say it will. Lastly, I cannot choose the first nor the third option because i do not know the administrator password. Attempts to reset it have also failed, as the programs required to do so require me to boot from a disc.

just put in the XP cd assuming you have it or you can get a SP3 xp iso with XP AND SP3 from sources i am not going to list — Microsoft is a MONOPOLY — I DO NOT CARE ONE BIT if they lose $ 100 OK they have about let me check editing ? after i find out how much money MS has
ok editing now this link may have info from 2007 but well you can take about 5 billion off point is they are fucking money theives

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_much_money_does_Microsoft_make_per_year

yeah so just pick um install Windows — THE FIRST TOP CHOICE idk what the exact words are i use linux most of the time and haven’t installed XP in a few months um then just delete all the partitions and install in the Unallocated space btw if your computer can’t handle Windows 7 have you tried Linux mint it’s really nice and it KEEPS GETTING BETTER oh and it’s free here is some more info

http://linuxmint.com/rel_maya_xfce_whatsnew.php

and here is the User Guide http://www.linuxmint.com/documentation/user-guide/english_13.0.pdf
hope this helps your computer

BTW what is so bad about a monopoly ? well just look at Walmart do you shop at Walmart — if so then STOP NOW no more purchasing ANYTHING at walmart unless it is an EMERGENCY if you have netflix they may have a documentary on Walmart and a LOT of other things and here is a link to what could be so bad about microsoft they are a good company right http://www.kmfms.com/whatsbad.html

also when you install Windows try this program — Wubi
it lets you run another program without loading windows
http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/w… BTW it is a small file so it won’t take but 10 seconds to download

and here is what you should do with it
open it
select 7 or more for the install size
select — X – ubuntu from the list — its the one under Ubuntu i just emphasized the X
ok now enter a password and click install now it will take about 40 minutes to download just wait
go watch tv or something
now when it says restart — do so BUT be sure to select Xubuntu from the list that comes up meaning do not boot into Windows (yet)
now wait for Xubuntu to install its all automatic and you don’t have to do anything at this point
now when it finishes installing just reboot but this time go into Windows one more time and DEFRAGMENT the hard drive very important — thats NTFS < the Windows file system then you can reboot into Xubuntu and enjoy a virus free environment and have a fast computer

Question by : Should I buy the windows 7 disk for my new pc build?
If I already own the “windows vista” and the “uprade to windows 7″ disk should i buy the “windows 7″ disk for a new I am building?

It will have ALL new never used before parts. Also the operating system will go onto an SSD.
Also my current HDD will meet the trash can.
Im asking because performance is a big deal for me and and i don’t want a slower install or something of that nature.
I HAVE the vista disk and the product key with it. No, it wast preinstalled

Did your copy of Vista come installed on your old machine? If so, the license is probably limited to that machine and will not work on a different one.

Otherwise use Windows 7 unless buying a new OS is a budget breaker.

yes i downloaded it on torrent. i have both dvd+r and dvd-r. and can you please tell me which cd is most recommend to put those in that would be most help full ^^
Actually it is not illegal until i involve this with financial stuff. which means if i sell this out in the streets then i would get fined or go to jail. so all you goodie two shoes can read this.
all you haters out there i only wanted the kill disk

Ummm that is illegal! Pirating Windows software is against the law. I hope the Windows Police see this and come pay you a visit.

Edit:
Actually, no. Possessing pirated software is illegal. You’re also distributing the Windows7 iso across torrent network, which is also illegal.

Question by : Windows 7 “No bootable device inserted — please insert bootable disk and press any key”?
I have a Windows 7 Toshiba laptop, I just installed this cleany thingy for my computer and I’m FREAKING OUT :/

It says it would fix all of my errors that my computer had, then it eventually told me to restart my computer. When I get passed the first start-up screen, it tells me that “no bootable device inserted — please insert bootable disk and press any key.” with a bunch of other process things that I don’t remember.

I don’t remember the name of the thing I installed, but it was guarunteed to speed up my computer and all of that stuff :/ Please help…

Answer by GrayGeek
Your boot file is destroyed. Reinstall Windows and why would you do something like that in the first place. You call it a “cleany thingy” and you don’t remember what the name of the software was.

Question by Rae: Windows 7 “Disk Read Error”?
I know this is fairly common, but none of the previous solutions have worked for me. The PC is an Acer Aspire 7741Z with Windows 7 Home Premium. When the PC is turned on it immediately says “A disk read error has occurred press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart. Obviously, that only does the same thing over and over. Alt f10 renders a similar error, “HDD recovery validation failed! Press any key to continue.”

Also, f8 does absolutely nothing! Nothing loads and nothing happens. I can go to f12, but it doesn’t seem to help either. It gives 4 options:
1. IDE 0: WDC WD1200BEVS-22USTO-(S1) – when run only goes right back to the disk error
2. IDE CD/DVD: MATSHITADVD-RAM UJ890AS-(S
3. Network Boot: MBA v12.2.2 Slot 0200
both 1 & 2 render similar results – they both say “operating system not found”
– of course goes to f2

f2 isn’t anymore helpful, it contains: “info”, “main”, “security”, “boot” and “exit” tabs, and I have tried all sorts of different options there. I have reset it all to defaults, changed the SATA mode, switched the boot orders… I don’t know what else to do.

I cannot get to the start menu, or anywhere to write anything in so I haven’t been able to try anything like that yet. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do to fix this problem?

I created a recovery CD, but it doesn’t do anything either, since everything seems to lead back to the disk read error.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance to everyone that helps!
~God bless!!!

Take it to a computer store get them to fix it.

They will use something like hirens on it to determine what’s wrong with the HDD.

Question by __________: Windows 7 “repairing disk errors” taking hours to complete?
turned on my Windows 7 x64 laptop after the weekend and it hung at the bootscreen for a few seconds and proceeded to startup repair. It then began to check the disk and has been at it for almost 4 hours now.
My HDD light blinks on and off repeatedly and sometimes stays on for up to 5 minutes at a time. Should i leave it to run (for how long?) or should i do a hard shutdown and try the startup disk?
The HDD size is around 250GB, about a third full of data.
Thanks
laptop is new so i doubt the HDD is toast just yet :P .
