Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) June 22, 2006

Audiofy Corporation, publishers of audiobooks on tiny digital memory cards, this month announced new compatibility with Apple iPod media players, through updated software that rapidly transfers the contents of Audiofy audiobook chips to these popular listening devices.

Owners of Audiofy audiobook chips and Apple iPod media players have been invited to publicly test this beta software, under the pilot program announced by Audiofy Corporation. The latest release of Audiofy’s new software feature – called “ChipZip!” — supports all Apple iPod media players with displays (excluding iPod shuffle models), connected to any computer running Microsoft Windows XP, Windows 2000 or Apple Mac OS X 10.3.9 and above.

Audiofy audiobook chips already play on a diverse array of computers, handheld PDAs and mobile smartphones that accept SD memory cards. This multiplatform support includes desktop and laptop computers running Microsoft Windows or Apple Mac OS X, Palm and Microsoft Pocket PC handheld PDAs, and Treo and Windows Mobile smartphones.

“Since Audiofy began selling audiobooks on memory cards over a year and a half ago, owners of Apple iPod media players have asked us almost daily about compatibility,” said Cartwright Reed, President of Audiofy. “Listeners love that Audiofy audiobook chips can hold 10, 20 or 30 hours of audio in about the space of a postage stamp,

without taking any time to download, or tying up an Internet connection potentially for hours. Since audiobook chips are something physical and tangible, they are easy to lend and share, give as gifts, and move in just seconds from computers to handheld players to smartphones. They’ve opened up new opportunities for retailers.”

“Opening up Audiofy’s platform to work with Apple iPod media players, a device so many audiobook enthusiasts already own, just makes sense,” Reed said. “We’re pleased to add another level of convenience to Audiofy’s products.”

Owners of Audiofy Audiobook Chips can download Audiofy’s ChipZip! application immediately from http://chipzip.audiofy.com/ and the updated software will remain available for free to all Audiofy audiobook chip owners.

All Audiofy products comply with the “Audiobook Compatible” standard established by the Audio Publishers Association and the Consumer Electronics Association.

ALAMEDA, Calif. (PRWEB) October 21, 2008

This announcement follows today’s news by the Open Handset Alliance to release the Android platform under an open source license. Wind River formally joined the Open Handset Alliance in November 2007 as an Android commercialization partner, and since then has been an active, contributing member to the consortium.

In conjunction with today’s announcement, Wind River announced that Kyocera Wireless Corp. has selected Wind River to help develop a new product platform incorporating Android. The companies intend for Wind River to provide software systems integration services inclusive of technologies from other Open Handset Alliance members and third-party partners (see separate announcement).

Wind River’s software systems integration services include deep professional services offerings for customer-specific, end-to-end Android implementations, including customization, optimization and testing tailored to customer’s devices. These services for Android are currently being deployed to customers worldwide.

“Wind River is leveraging its deep involvement with the Open Handset Alliance to offer a Wind River supported and maintained Android solution to companies planning to deploy Android,” said Jason Whitmire, general manager of the Mobile segment at Wind River. “This is compelling to manufacturers and operators because it mitigates the cost and risk associated with open source solutions.”

Wind River’s commercial software platform for Android is expected to include the latest open source Android software, Wind River’s commercial-grade Linux, including Android-specific Linux patches, and pre-integrated third-party technologies to help commercialize Android. Additionally, the platform is expected to be optimized on leading mobile semiconductor hardware from which manufacturers can quickly build market-differentiated products. During the development of the platform, Wind River will leverage its unique technologies such as its layer-based build system and automated test framework, which will further test and validate the platform, reduce development time and risk, and improve quality.

Earlier this year, Wind River partnered with Texas Instruments, NEC Electronics and STMicroelectronics to demonstrate the Android platform at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. Company-wide, Wind River plays leading roles in industry consortia and communities aimed at developing Linux-based open software platforms across a variety of adjacent industries, including: Eclipse, SCOPE-Alliance, The Linux Foundation, LiMo Foundation, OpenSAF and Moblin.org.

Availability

Wind River’s commercially supported Android software platform is expected to be available in the first half of calendar-year 2009.
