Question by Hibilton: realtek audio driver problem “error- 0001!”?
Hi, i am having an audio problem with my recently installed OS “windows 7″ i installed it and all the drivers are working fine but the audio, my mother board is a gigabyte EG31MF-S2 and it has the drivers on the disc, i am certain these drivers work as i have used them many times before. does anyone know how i can get my computer to play sound?
Please i am very desperate and any help will be greatly appreciated.
Ok thanks, i have a logitech x-540 5.1 speaker system, do you think i just need to set it up correctly?

windows 7 doesn’t need any audio drivers….nor video
if your mother-board is pretty new in manufacturing…atleast 1 year old…
bcoz latest mother-boards are equipped with on-board drivers for audio & video….

When opening boot camp i left the box that said “download latest software from apple” or something like that unchecked, the only box i checked was “install windows 7″. So could that be why there is no sound?
if not how can i fix it

You… You Installed Windows 7 on a Macbook? Dude, that’s just wrong. You basically paid $ 1,200+ for a computer renowned for its operating system, only to then convert to the performance of a cheap $ 300 laptop. And besides, you paid $ 100+ for an operating system that’s being replaced with Windows 8 this year. You better have a valid reason for doing something so silly… Anyways, try rebooting your system. Put in some headphones and try again. Check if your sound is on mute. It can’t be the operating system… It has to be your computer.

What to upgrade a laptop with win 7, intergraded sound card could be a issue. I read I should upgrade bios and delete sound driver and see if win 7 can find a driver? Any advise?

Go to settings/control panel/system/device manager
and delete the sound device and shut down. Reboot
and you should get the message “new device found” see
if windows can install it from the windows files.
If it is not there you will have to download the driver and install it manually.

Question by Risposte: Audio jack causing Windows XP freeze?
I was always taught you can hot swap a keyboard, but not a mouse, as the PC will freeze.
This is the second time, I had many things open in XP Pro, and when I switched the 1/8″
headphone jack and plugged in my computer speakers, Windows compeltely froze.
I lost tons of work in progress and had to reboot. Why would this happen???

Could be possible Short in the motherboard, or the motherboard is not correctly mounted to the chassis. Could be something in the speakers themselves. You should be able to plug and unplug speakers anytime with no issues. If mouse and keyboard are usb you can connect and disconnect those at anytime as well. I would try to get it to freeze again see if it was just dumb luck or if there is a serious problem that needs to be addressed. Also you could have possibly bumped another wire.

Question by Becky: Why does my Windows Media Player 9 hang and freeze when playing audio files?
I’m running WinXPHome SP2 on a Compaq Presario 700 with 996 MHz processor and 240 MB RAM. I keep my audio files on an USB 1.0 external drive. The other day, I was playing a audio file from the external drive and the whole system froze while playing. It’s a common occurance (I’m led to believe) with this model, so I restarted the system.

I then copied ALL my audio files to the internal drive and have been trying to play the files from the internal drive.

Now, whenever I use WMP to play audio files, the system will freeze (not to the point of forced restart) and the songs will hang or skip. I often have to CTRL+ALT+DEL to quit the player.

This NEVER happened on my Gateway desktop, which ran Windows ME, even with the audio files on the external and I also had Incredimail, Wordpad and/or a JASC application open… all ran happily together with NO issues.

What could be the problem? Would downloading and using Winamp solve the issue?
