Flurry Raises $ 7 Million Series B to Accelerate Mobile Analytics Firm’s Rapid Growth – InterWest Partners leads round of financing

San Francisco and New York (PRWEB) January 12, 2010

Flurry, Inc., a leading mobile application analytics provider, today announced it has closed a Series B financing round of $ 7 million. Led by top-tier venture capital firm InterWest Partners, the round included existing investors Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Union Square Ventures, First Round Capital and Draper Richards.

InterWest general partner, Doug Pepper, also joins the Flurry board of directors. In addition to a decade of technology investment experience focused on digital marketing and advertising, Mr. Pepper brings board level experience with relevant companies including Marketo, INVIDI Technologies, Brand.net and Offerpal Media, as well as professional experience with Amazon.com.

Since launching its service in January 2009, Flurry has quickly emerged as one of the world’s largest mobile application analytics and monetization platforms. The company now tracks over one billion end user application sessions per month across iPhone™, iPod Touch™ and Android™ devices. Over 15,000 developers have chosen to integrate Flurry Analytics within their applications, which have been downloaded to more than 80% of all iPhone, iPod Touch and Android devices.

“Smartphone application download growth is skyrocketing like nothing in recent consumer tech history, dwarfing even early Internet adoption,” said Flurry chief executive officer, Simon Khalaf. “With its significant reach, Flurry is positioned to play a significant role in leveraging the measurement of consumer behavior to accelerate the sale of applications and virtual goods.”

The financing will be used to aggressively build out new services that increase application developer revenue, hire new employees and scale its infrastructure. Flurry AppCircle™, currently in private beta, is the first of a series of revenue generating services designed to use data to intelligently target consumers and increase sales in the App Store.

“Flurry has built one of the industry’s most widely deployed and powerful tools for measuring and monetizing mobile application usage,” said Doug Pepper, general partner, InterWest Partners. “This is an exciting time of innovation and growth for the mobile industry and we’re thrilled to be involved with the passionate and experienced team at Flurry.”

With Apple’s announcement last week that more than three billion apps have been downloaded, the App Store is growing at a rate 15 times faster than the iTunes store over the same time period. Piper Jaffray senior analyst, Gene Munster forecasts that Apple will sell an additional 36 million iPhones in 2010, a 40 percent increase from 2009 estimates. Additionally, more than 50 Android handsets, including the recently launched Google Nexus One, are expected to ship in 2010. Looking forward, Frost & Sullivan forecasts that Android OS devices will hold the third largest market share of the smartphone market by 2014, among the fastest rates of growth for a mobile product in the history of the mobile industry.

iPhone, Android Developers Flock to Flurry for Analytics

Flurry Screenshot 2 – App Usage

San Francisco (PRWEB) January 26, 2009

Flurry, a cross-platform mobile application analytics provider, rang in the New Year with over 300 developers using its free service within the first 60 days of launching its Beta. Today Flurry is making available its free service to all iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Java ME developers as well as providing a demo with live data for developers to preview the service.

With new markets like the App Store reporting over 15,000 available games and applications, developer competition for consumers is fierce. Flurry’s easy-to-integrate technology allows developers to gather live consumer usage data to improve their products, increase user retention and compete more effectively in these new markets.

“Rapid adoption of Flurry Analytics validates we’re solving a significant pain point for game and application developers. The response has exceeded our own expectations,” said Flurry CEO, Simon Khalaf. “With more platforms supported than any other mobile analytics provider — and new features being added all the time — Flurry offers the most complete solution on the market.”

During its recent Beta, Flurry stress-tested its service for aggressive and reliable scaling. “As a company whose legacy includes handling millions of mobile emails, we are using our experience to smoothly scale our back-end in order to satisfy the sharp demand for Flurry Analytics,” said cofounder and CTO, Sean Byrnes. “Flurry Analytics has already supported millions of user sessions and has been put through high volume testing to prepare for its next phase of expansion.”

Among the most powerful new features available is the ability for developers to track custom user events within games and applications. Similar to Google Analytics, but for mobile applications, developers can monitor custom-defined user actions within their applications to better understand how their products are used and where to make improvements. Comparing user behavior and application performance across different versions enables teams to perform reliable A/B testing.

The service is free, requires minimal integration and occupies a negligible amount of space in an application. Through analytics, developers can track consumer behavior and application performance to identify user needs, increase retention and grow revenue.

About Flurry

Founded in 2005, Flurry’s Analytics platform is built by developers for developers, based on its pioneering experience as one the first developers to build, deploy and market direct-to-consumer applications. Flurry is venture-backed and based in San Francisco.

Flurry and Pinch Media Graphical Asset

San Francisco and New York (PRWEB) December 22, 2009

Flurry, Inc. and Pinch Media, two leading smartphone application analytics providers, today announced that they have signed a definitive agreement to merge. This merger will solidify the companies’ combined position as the mobile application analytics market leader on the world’s fastest growing digital media platforms: iPhone™ and Android™. As a combined company, Flurry and Pinch Media analytics services will be running on more than 80% of all iPhone, iPod Touch and Android handsets worldwide.

According to Morgan Stanley’s recent Mobile Internet Report, the iPhone is growing faster than the Internet did during the 90s. With 57 million iPhone OS units sold over its first nine quarters, iPhone OS penetration is more than three times greater than what AOL and Netscape achieved, combined, over the same period of time. Additionally, comparing iPhone OS sales to other historically successful hardware launches, iPhone OS outperforms the Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS, Sony PSP, Apple iPod and RIM BlackBerry. Additionally, Gartner Research recently forecasted that Android adoption will overtake iPhone adoption within three years. Going forward, the company will leverage consumer insight gained by tracking usage on 4 out of every 5 iPhone OS devices and 2 out of every 3 Android OS devices to accelerate revenue generation for application developers.

“Flurry has long since admired Pinch Media’s leadership in iPhone analytics and monetization, and is proud to join forces with such an accomplished team,” said Flurry president and CEO, Simon Khalaf. “Leveraging the industry’s broadest and deepest set of data for iPhone and Android, the combined company will be strongly positioned to deliver a series of monetization and marketing optimization services in ways few other companies can.”

The merged company will retain the Flurry name, maintain existing San Francisco and New York offices and hire aggressively. In the near-term, the company’s main priorities will be to seamlessly unify its service and significantly increase the analytics feature-set offered. The company will continue to offer its analytics service free of charge.

“Joining forces with Flurry’s innovative team made perfect sense from the moment we considered it,” said Pinch Media co-founder and CEO, Greg Yardley. “We’re still focused on helping iPhone application developers succeed, and thanks to this merger we’ll be able to do so in many more ways.

The merged company will track more than 1 billion end-user sessions per month on applications installed across 50 million unique iPhone, iPod Touch and Android devices. Flurry AppCircle™, currently in private beta, is the first of a series of services designed to use data to intelligently target consumers and increase sales in the App Store. For more information, please visit http://www.flurry.com/product/appcircle/index.html.
