Question by cool kid: Windows 7 “not responding” help!?
OK, recently whenever i insert a thumbdrive or flashdrive, it usually shows up, but when i try to copy, cut, or paste something from the thumbdrive onto my computer, it always freezes and says “not responding.” This also occurs when i try moving something (photo, music, document, etc.) from one folder to another. Everything used to work but now whenever i try to move or copy or cut something it always says “not responding” and then folder closes. This is so annoying! Can anyone help? Thanks!

This use to happen to me with Vista all the time. Sorry I don’t now how to fix it, but I thought I would just share the pain with you. It had something to do with Windows Explorer and the Desktop Window Manager with Vista. After the window closes, does the icons and the task bar momentarily disappear and come back? It use to happen to me.
Check you pen drive for bad sectors (Right click on pen drive and select properties-tools-click on check now-then select both check boxes click on start) and scan computer with pen drive for virus.
I’ve never encountered this problem before, but, it sounds like a problem with “explorer.exe” (maybe a virus). I would just format my system. If you bought your computer from HP, Dell, ASUS, Acer, etc., it’ll have a “recovery partition”, which will allow you bring your computer back to its “factory condition”. This will erase all your files, so, BACK IT UP onto an external HDD, before doing this.
Reinstall os
USB or Universal Serial Bus is a very common computer connectivity technology. USB ports allow users to connect many different USB devices to the system.
this happened once to my 32gb flash drive and my 500gb external hard drive. Here’s how I fixed it:
I had a bootable linux mint flashdrive on hand so I booted on that, went to gparted (you can also download it online) and copied all my data onto my hard disk and formatted the flash drive. After that, everything went perfectly
