Question by Tyler B: How can I bypass Windows 7 “Access is Denied”?
Hi, I have just installed Windows 7 Ultimate on a Dell Inspiron 530 (my computer probably doesn’t matter). I have Flight Simulator 10 by Microsoft, and since I did a “clean install” i had to reinstall everything. Since I did not backup my planes, I have to modify the .cfg files…i don’t care if you don’t know about Flight Simulator X, it doesn’t matter. The problem is, whenever I open the .cfg files, change then, and try to save, it asks me if I would like to overwrite. I click yes, then another thing pops up saying that you need Administrator permission. Since I am an administrator, I click continue. Then it waits a second or two and says “Access Is Denied”. I have made the file non-read-only, but this did not helped. I can still rename and delete the files, but I would like to know if there is a way to turn off the “Access Is Denied”. I searched around and found no questions similar to this, so I have decided to ask it here.

Right click and open as administrator.

In Windows 7, unless you explicitly enable the Administrator account, you can’t really get complete administrator privileges. Here are instructions for enabling it:

um…try googling file unlocker? basically a program that lets u do whatever u want to files
Since Vista, there is a difference between being an administrator (a user with administrator rights) and running a program as Administrator (the super-user account Administrator). Even as administrator, you need to right-click on the program you want to use and click on “Run as Administrator” to overwrite any files that were created by another user or a program that had different user privileges than yours.
