Question by ubrokmecoraz.: my laptop and charger: “plugged in, not charging”?
I really need some help! I have no idea what to do and the stuff I googled isn’t working!
So yesterday I had my charger plugged in, and I decided to take it out cuz I thought it had been in long enough for my laptop to finally have a full battery. But when I took it out, my computer said “8%”! And when I plugged my charger back in, I noticed it said “plugged in, not charging”. So I googled it and I tried different solutions, but they didn’t work. Plus some were too confusing to understand. Has this happened to anyone? Were you able to fix it? And how? Please help!
It only charges when my laptop is off. I know that’s sorta good, but I still really want to fix it!
I have an HP and windows vista.

most of the times, its the battery problem n sometimes its the charger problem. Restart your system to chk if it works. Otherwise, try pluggin in n out the charger pin into your laptop. Might work. Otherwise, the problem could be with your motherboard as well (as per my DELL technician) Otherwise, call HP Centre n share your problem. You can test ur charger with another HP / Compaq laptop as well, just in case n try their charger on yours.
And this is a very common problem (sply in DELL).

in order, (print this out or write it down)
remove battery and try to power up laptop. if that works, your battery is dead so get a new one.
if that doesn’t work, buy a new charger $ 40-100. cheap fix.
plug the battery back in. if you can gently push the power connector at the back of the laptop and the lights come on in front suddenly when they didn’t before, then you have a flaky power connector and you must send the laptop in for service. see if you can get by without having to replace the motherboard (very expensive). make sure you bring your OS cd’s and drivers.
If that doesn’t work, chances are your laptop motherboard has died and you would be better off buying a new laptop.
only one of these should be a fix for your problem.
a local manufacturer-authorized service center should be able to always fix your problems if this is too confusing. expext to pay at least $ 200 for laptop service.

I recently experienced a problem where my ASUS g73JH wouldn’t charge at all. I contacted my manufactuer, they replaced the charger and I am happy as the bee’s knees ~
same thing happened to me and it’s been doing it ever since my bf’s 10yr old sister let the battery run out completely and now it won’t charge back up D:<
Definitely a new battery should solve it. Its not charging the battery because the battery is dead. I had a similar issue but my charger was actually defective cause it didn’t even turn my laptop on! When I got a replacement it fixed up all my problems.
