Question by Matt: Laptop: Upgraded to Windows 7, Now I cant buy Replacement Battery?
I am looking to replace my battery on my Sony VAIO VGN-NR110E. The computer came with vista, but after adding another gig of RAM, I decided to upgraded to Windows 7. Now I need to replace my battery, but my sellers listing for my battery states

“INCLUDES INSTALLATION CD! DOES NOT WORK WITH WINDOWS 7″

Why do I need an installation CD for a battery, and why wont it work with my Windows 7, if the stock battery works normally (except it lasts only about 25 mins since ive owned it for three years.”

Thanks for your input!

Question by Daniel L: will my new laptop get 6 or little more batter life with new os windows 7?
Ok…i bought my very new toshiba labtop in march 2009
the specs are.:
Intel core 2 duo processor 2.0GHz 800FSB, 320GB SATA hard drive 2.5 form factor, 4GB DDR2 800 ram, 14.1 in. screen, and a 9 cell orginal toshiba battery.
I curretly have windows vista ultimate sp2 on my computer and eversince i bought my laptop i been getting ton of hours on my battery after full charge.. 5 hours and 30 minutes.
I been reading articles on the internet.. ie.: google “windows 7″ on the future release windows 7 “vista successor” and it said it will be energy effiencient and consume less battery power.
So, my question is, will my laptop also increase battery life from current 5 and a half hours with vista ultimate sp2 to about 6 hours to little more?
Thanks

Until the final release, that is impossible to know. The current versions of Windows 7 are not final copies. Just like Longhorn was not a final copy of Vista. Vista runs different then Longhorn did because they changed things in it before it was finalized. You will just have to wait and see. It will also depend on how you use the system, because the energy saving features may not agree with how you use your system. For example, Windows 7 may try to turn off your wifi when you aren’t using it. This would indeed save power, but if you want instant messages or updates, you need that connection.

Question by : Can I Use the Windows 7 Restore Disc from Another Laptop?
Hello,

I have a new laptop that for some reason didn’t come with the windows 7 home premium restore disc. Can I use the disc from my other laptop as long as I use the product key from the back of the NEW laptop?

The disc I have SAYS Windows 7 “Upgrade Option” from Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium, but I have completely wiped the hard-drive and reinstalled windows 7 from scratch using it.

I just want input on whether or not this would work because the NEW laptop is not mine. I’m working on it for someone else and if this doesn’t work, the other person would have to pay DELL like $ 129 because it didn’t come with the software disc or I would have to find the software online which is too much of a hassle.

Any input is valued, thank you.

Yes you can use that even if it’s just an upgrade disc of Windows 7. Read this:

http://www.winsupersite.com/article/win7/clean-install-windows-7-with-upgrade-media

However, forget about your Windows 7 Restore Disc as it might contain drivers specific for your hardware. The best solution is by downloading an ISO image of Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 installer:
x86 (32-bit) version

MD5SUM: c5bb99b2f1a9e7a5b4fbc6e3eff70882

x64 (64-bit) version

http://msft.digitalrivercontent.net/win/X17-24209.iso

MD5SUM: 971843a457b6e0db0af61258cbe7256a

Note that those images are original. Theycome from Digital Rivers, the official e-Commerce partner of Microsoft. You can verify Digital River’s status as an official vendor from this Microsoft press release:

http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/events/pdc/docs/digitallocker.doc

Once you’ve saved the ISO image file to your hard drive, right click on the file and select “Open with -> Windows Disc Image Burner” to burn it to a blank DVD disc.

Install the OS on your friend’s laptop and activate it using the product key.that’s on his laptop. You might just need to download and install drivers for the devices that might not be automatically detected by the installer such as the wifi adapter.

Question by Pooblah: How to remove Windows 7 beta on already deleted partition?
I downloaded the beta build of Windows 7 just to check it out, but my mistake was doing it on my older laptop, and its graphics card or monitor didn’t have the best screen resolution, so it was pretty much useless to me…I used easeus partition manager to do the partition and after I endured the pain-stakingly long installation…I tried it out. I just figured If I went straight to my partition manager and deleted the partition I created, it would just destroy the windows 7 files since it was only on that partition. Well, I restarted my computer many times for the partition to take effect and such, and at when the computer is starting to load, it gives me the option to go to “windows 7″ or my earlier version of windows…It was a major inconvenience, and I wanted to why this was happening and what i can do to delete the windows 7 files if there are any left…? please and thanks?
my normal c drive is working fine on windows xp…I was just asking if there were just some temp files or something…its just kind of a convenience when my laptop starts up

You may have to format the hard drive and reinstall windows. In the future it would be wise to read up on it, before you install it. Somewhere it even said on one of the reports I read that you can’t install it over windows xp, as none of the drivers will be supported.

I would try going here, someone might know a work around where you wont have to format the hard drive and reinstal.

Windows 7? Kaspersky?

Question by BerryVinegar: Windows 7? Kaspersky?
Hey everyone!
New question for you peoplez. *^^* Help would be appreciated!
So… Is the new “WINDOWS 7″ really any good? What’s so great and fabulous about it? I have the CD and I want to upgrade it and all.. But we recently got one of the Kaspersky Internet Security product, and I just read the side labels. It won’t work with Windows 7, but it will with what we have now. (Windows Vista) So it’s one or the other.. sooo… What should I do?
To “Person,” the link is broken. :(

Contact Kaspersky. I had a similar issue, but they can give you the link to a compatible version and you should be able to use the CD key included with the version you already have. If you have any questions, just ask them. Their support is really good.

Question by : How do i get my computer to automatically boot Windows 7?
I have an old computer that was pre-installed with Windows XP, I just recently uploaded Windows 7 onto my computer and it works great, the only problem is that when I start my computer it goes to this black screen where I have to choose an OS to start, I get two options: “Earlier version of Windows” and “Windows 7″. It makes my have to hit enter on Windows 7 every time I start it up, it’s not a big deal I just want it to automatically boot Windows 7. Thanks in advance.

Answer by Semtex
Boot up Windows 7. Next open the start menu and type ‘msconfig’ into the search box and then run it. In here you’ll find the boot options, you can choose the default OS and also set how long it waits for you to choose before just starting the default one. I usually set it to about three seconds, long enough for me not to miss it but not so long that it waits forever if I just switch it on and go to make a cup of coffee.

dual boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu?

Question by : dual boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu?
I have 2 500 gb HDDs on raid 0 for a total of 1Tb with winows 7 ultimate 64 bit and I added a 30 Gb SSD and planning to install Ubuntu on the ssd , I have 2 issues, the major one is that everytime I install Ubuntu on the SSD using “install Ubuntu alndside windows 7″ option the system will only boot to the ssd Ubuntu everytime with no luck to get windows running again, I know that windows is there on the HDD but I cannot get to it. the second problem is that before installing ubuntu , windows does not list the ssd or cannot find it. it only shows up on the start up list of drives as a non raid drive but windows 7 cannotfind it or format it or anything

Best answer:

Answer by Jon
I know this is a bit off topic, but do not install ubuntu on your ssd, install windows on that if possible and then install ubuntu on the 500Gb, ubuntu is not optimized for TRIM, which allows SSDs to function properly without slowing down considerably, windows 7 however is.
