Especially if you have no knowledge of the Linux operating system and are planning to covert from Windows, it could be mind-boggling. However, if you are one of such people then here is a guide for you. Keep in mind that you will have to spend a good amount of money and effort to understand how Linux 101 works. Here is a step-by-step information guide that you will need to decide if this is the operating system for you, to choose a Linux distribution, to install and configure and to get the software applications for it.

The first thing you need to know is what an operating system is. Then, find out the difference between UNIX and Windows. Until and unless you know what UNIX is all about, you will not be able to use Linux in the best possible way. Linux belongs to the UNIX family only and that is why it is important to know about it.

Once you start reading about all this information, you will get to know that Linux is the ultimate UNIX. UNIX does not refer to any single operating system but it contains a number of flavors. Linux was written with the UNIX architecture by Linus Torvalds in 1943. Since that very day, it has created a revolution for UNIX. Some people consider it a better operating system; better even than the Microsoft Windows. It makes use of open source and free software that is really relished by its users.

After you have gathered enough information about Linux, you will have to choose a Linux distribution. Again there are hundreds of choices. If you think you are not educated enough to choose the right distribution for yourself then it is better to take consult. You can consult your friends or colleagues who are already using Linux to know about the Linux 101. Once you get hold of the operating system, you will have to pick some useful software applications. They are needed for both – business and fun. You can easily find the various options available on the Internet.

You can find out all the above mentioned information through the Internet but you will need personal attention from an expert to learn how to use Linux 101. Therefore, the best way to follow these steps is to start with finding a Linux guru. Find an expert who has thorough knowledge of Linux and make him/her to teach and help operate Linux 101. However, keep in mind that having a certification to understand Linux is not a necessity.

Summary: To understand and start using the Linux 101 operating system, one needs to start from the scratch. From understanding the concept of an operating system, Linux, Windows to the special features of Linux – only an expert can help. Nevertheless, getting informed about certain things through the Internet can help one achieve the target soon!

Military Pay App, MilPay, reaches iTunes Top 25 list

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) December 25, 2010

MilitaryLounge.com today announced that their Military Pay calculator for iPhone/iPad/iTouch and Android OS, MilPay, edged into the Top 25 most downloaded Apps in the finance category of iTunes. MilPay was recently updated to reflect 2011 military pay raise and Basic Allowance for Housing, BAH rates. The surge in popularity of MilPay is largely attributed to the DoD’s release of the 2011 Military Pay Charts and BAH rates. The App makes navigating the complex pay tables and BAH rates a simple and interactive experience.

“Our popularity couldn’t have come at a better time – the 2011 pay and BAH rates were just released and we’re excited to provide our users with a way to easily view 2011 pay changes,” said Alison, a representative for the company MilitaryLounge.

MilPay is perfect for Active Duty U.S. military soldiers. The App makes it easy to calculate total salary using the basic pay scale, housing allowance BAH rates, special incentive pay, and other benefits. In three steps it breaks down pay and allows users to plan for military pay increases and salary changes after promotions. The results are displayed in a fun and easy to read format and include a feature to input the number of hours worked in a given week and see a breakdown of the equivalent hourly pay.

MilitaryLounge.com is an independent software company based in Seattle, WA. They have released multiple iPhone Apps for military personnel, including PerDiemCalc and RetirePay. The company was founded in 2008 to provide a collection of mobile and web resources for Military and other DoD personnel. For more information, go to http://www.militarylounge.com

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) March 5, 2009

Flurry, the leading cross-platform mobile application analytics provider, today announced the release of two ground-breaking extensions to its analytics service: User Path Tracking to monitor the sequence of actions completed in mobile applications by consumers; and, Dynamic Parameters to analyze user-generated content and other user action data within mobile applications. These never-before-seen mobile analytics features are available for free on all Flurry-supported platforms: iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Java ME. A demo with live data is available for developers to preview the upgraded service.

“Flurry is committed to dramatically raising the standard of iPhone and Android Analytics for its customers,” said Flurry CEO, Simon Khalaf. “Building the ability to track user flows and event parameters was technically challenging but exactly what our customers needed to better understand their consumers, increase retention and grow their active user base.”

Since emerging from Beta earlier this year, Flurry Analytics has collected billions of analytics data points across tens of millions user sessions. Each day, Flurry Analytics gathers additional data from millions of mobile users, including data from among several of iPhone and Android’s top selling games and applications.

“Millions of consumers have come to expect the highest quality game experiences from Digital Chocolate, such as Tower Bloxx and Crazy Penguin Catapult,” said Digital Chocolate Chief Operating Officer, Jason Loia. “Partnering with Flurry provides us with critically important data to consistently improve our games for our consumers.”

Flurry Analytics new features include:

User Path Tracking: Equivalent to “click streams” on the web, developers now can track the sequence of actions that consumers complete in their applications from the time of launch. This data can be used to increase user satisfaction and retention by improving the design of an application and discovery of key features.

Dynamic Parameters: In addition to the ability to track when end-users perform key actions, developers can now “describe” how that action was completed in richer detail. For example, if a developer includes a search box within her application, she can now understand details such as what the most popular keyword searches are, the number of words used in searches and what kinds of searches are performed at different times of the day.

To learn more about the Flurry Analytics service, please visit www.flurry.com.

About Flurry Analytics

Flurry Analytics helps developers make better iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Java ME games and applications. The service is free, requires minimal integration and occupies a negligible amount of space in an application. Through analytics, developers can track consumer behavior and application performance to identify user needs, increase retention and grow revenue.

About Flurry

Founded in 2005, Flurry’s Analytics platform is built by developers for developers, based on its pioneering experience as one the first developers to build, deploy and market direct-to-consumer applications. Flurry is venture-backed and based in San Francisco.

This is a tutorial that I made for people like me who want to keep the reliability and software compatibility of Windows® Operating Systems and retrieve the slick GUI interface of Apple Mac OSX™ Operating Systems. This is compatible with all versions of Windows (XP/Vista/7), and was made for people who like to customize their desktop beyond recognition to the point at which only they can remember that it was once something everybody has now. I was looking all around the Internet for ways to make this Mac interface happen, but apparently it requires the finest Googler and the ability to piece it all together to be able to make something even similar to this even happen. Now yes, I know, I did not get the window skin and the Maximize, Minimize, and Close buttons, but that is something that was available for download a long time ago, and now cannot be downloaded for some reason. I looked on the creators page, and the download isnt even available, so it is not possible currently. However, if you know a way this is possible, please tell me, so I can piece together another tutorial including all of the elements for the full package (yes, I will give you credit for the information). Now, for the links: (which are all virus-free and have been scanned by Norton 360 version 4.0 (which is the latest as of April 2010) Link for Mouse Pointer: www.mauldor.com Mouse Pointer: This is a program that will install the Mac OSX mouse pointer on your computer. Dont worry, you can just go into

Cross Platform Mobile Development Showcased at October Mobile Monday Chicago Meeting

Chicago, IL (Vocus) October 18, 2010

CityTech, Inc. is hosting the presentation: Cross Platform Mobile Development: The Easy Way to Develop Native iPhone and Android Apps, at the October 18th Mobile Monday meeting. This event will take place at CityTech’s Chicago headquarters at 211 W. Wacker Dr., Ste. 1300, Chicago, IL 60606.

Jeff Schwartz, CityTech Technical Architect and Project Manager, will lead the presentation, which will focus on the challenges facing enterprises as they try to build native applications for multiple platforms. During his talk, he will create a weather application that runs natively on iPhone and Android devices.

Recently, Schwartz was the lead developer of CityTech’s Summit World Q&A Trivia Sweepstakes mobile application, available in both the iPhone App Store and the Android Market. The innovative backend of the Summit World application featured an extensive enterprise cloud computing platform for highly available and on-demand massive scalability that could be leveraged for a broad range of business applications.

“As the number of people using smartphones explodes, both in the US and around the world, consumers have discovered that they can do so much more with their mobile phones than just talk. But with over a half dozen smartphone OSes on the market, it’s difficult for companies to decide which platforms to prioritize in order to reach not only a wide audience, but the right audience. We’re looking forward to hearing Jeff’s perspective and learning from his experience tackling these difficult issues,” says Anthony Hand, MoMo Chicago Events Chair.

CityTech’s knowledge of mobile applications can help your organization expand both business and consumer communications. Registration for the October Mobile Monday Chicago meeting is still open.
